Be it enacted hj the Senate and House of
Representatives of the Vnited States of America
in Congress assembled, That the following sums
be, and the same are hereby, appropriated, to
supply deficiencies in the appropriations for the
service of the fiscal year ending the thirtieth
of June, eighteen hundred and fifty-seven,
out of any money in the treasury not other
wise appropriated, namely:
For the compensation of the cfScers, clerks,
messengers, and others receiving an annnl
salary in the service of the Senate viv:
For an additioml messenger from first Feb
ruarv to the thirtieth June, eighteen hundred
and fifty-seven, at twelve hundred dollars per
annum four hundred and n-inety-six cents.
For increase of compensation of the super
intendent in charge of the Senate furnaces,
from fourteenth Angus, eighteen hundred and
fiity-six, to thirtieth June eighteen hundred
and fifty-seven, at one hundred and twenty
dollars per annuni in addition to former saTary
one hundred and four dollars and seventy-eight
cents.
For contingent expenses cf the Senate, viz:
For the Congressional Globe and binding
the same three thousand two hundred and
eihtv-six dollars andsixtv-two cents.

For clerks to committees, pages, police,
horses acd carrvalls fourteen thousand seven
hundred and one dollars.
For stationery four thousand dollars.
Fox reporting proceedings, sixteen thousand

forty-four cents.
For miscellaneous items two thousand and
six hundred dollars.
For clothicg for the army, camp and garri
son equipage three hundred and thirty-two
thousand and fifty-six dollars and eighteen
cents.
For the regular supplies of the quarter
masters department, consisting of fuel for the
' officers, enlisted" men, guard, hospital store
. houses and offices, foragein kind for the horses,
mules, and oxen of the quartermasters depart
ment at the several posts and stations, and with
the armies in the field; for the horses.vcf the
