Lis. Editou: Having just returned from
a short tour throcgb Pavrcee and Johnson
counties, in this Territory, and knov. ng you
always like to be posted in relation to such
matters, I give you a few Vices respecting the
county. The toivn, Table Eocfc, is tear the
centre of Tawnee county, on the west bank of
the Great Nemaha river, and on an elevation
between two beautiful creeks flowing from the
west; it extends from 'one creek to the other;
and is on a direct line of. the Territorial read
Brownville to Marysvllle;' on Big Blue
river; being the only good crossing within four
miles of this point. It is 30 mil. : ' --west
of Brownville, and 12 'north, of the Kansas
line. The lots are three rods by nine, twelve
lota to the block: Allevs running at right an
&les through the centre of each block. The
Pr.blic Square is twenty-six rods across, each
way, and, on the top of a commanding emi
nence, where is a pretty view of the surround-
streams and country. There are two
houses being constructed at the present time,
one is a mercantile house; six other houses
contracted to be built. Two of your regular
down-masters, are at work constructing a Saw
and Grist mill; and under obligations to have
them in operation within three months. : I
rode over a good portion of the county, found
immense qu?.ntities of good building Stone.
Stone coal, Limestone and Granite, has been
discovered near the town. There is plenty of
timber on all the streams (which are numer
ous) fcr fencing aad building purposes. In
short, this portion of the country lacks none of
Nature's bounties, to make it one of the best
farming counties in Nebraska. ' Before and
beside yon rolls- an "in-'and sea" of ver
dure and luxuriance hundreds of acres of
, corn can now be seen? darkly waving in an
early summer: while behind this, stretch the
immeasurable meadows, coeval with Eden,
their untold wealth of herbage and flowers,
undulating in the fresh breezes like a gently
troubled ocean; and still behind these, at points
not far distant and again far as the eye can
reach,-or farther, swells the graceful outline of
the nearest woods) marking the winding way
of some sparkling water-course; while the open
prairie is often dotted with herds of cattle and
horses; and everywhere inviting their presence
everywhere proffering a harvest to the mow'
er's scythe which seems too bounteous to
have waved here spontaneously summer after
summer, since the deluge,
I will close by saying, that this sunny por
tion , of God's creation this natural inter
mingling of grainfield and pasture; meadow
and grove is more inviting than any aspec
worn by Nature elsewhere; and he who tra
verses these regions, will never again wonder
at the mighty tide of emigration, which sets
with resistless, ever-increasing volume, from
the Atlantic westward.

We havo been the recipient of so many fa
vors so many acts of kindness -have been
shown us since our sojourn in Nebraska, tha!
we have been kept- busy in making our bow
in thisr that and the other direction "we re
turn thanks" has become a stereotyped ex
prcssicn. Notwithstanding all this, wa will
say that our time ionored and-inlimate friend,
B. S. Kyle, of Troy, Ohio, has our special
thanks for a package of stationery forwarded
us. If we were near enough to be heard, Bart,
we would 6ay well as we have' over 200 sub-scribers-in
your county, wo will say it, anyhow
that at the Miami Coanty Bookstore, can be
found the finest, largest, and most varied stock
of Books, Stationery, &c, north of Cincinnati
That Briote. We were pleased to see
our energetic friend, John S. Mixsick, in less
than twenty-four hours after our last issue, cir
culating a subscription paper, to raise fund3 for
the'erection of a Bridge across the Little Ne
mahariver. The necessary amount was fast
rolling up when we last saw tho papor.
Since the above has been in type, Mr. Mix
kick informs us the requisite-amount is all
raised.

We look upon this Mill as one of the most use
ful machines to Farmers. Mr. Chalwick, of

One of our subscribers has written us a com
munication, urging the erection of a church
building in Brownville, generously offering to
donate a reasonable amount of timber toward
the erection of such a building, We agree
with our friend, in every particular; but as the
matter is already in progress money nearly,
or quite enough subscribed we think it "un
necessary to publish his. article.
"At His Old Tricks. W. II. Block,
clerk of the steamer Edinburgh, has placed us
again under obligations .to him by furnishing
us with'a package of SI Louis papers.

learn by our exchanges! at White, Ayers and
King, who, it will be recollected, robbed the
American Express Company sometime ago, 'of
$50,000 belonging to Government, have been
found guilty and sentenced to five y-ears im
prisonment in the Penitentiary. We . do' not

tained or no!. " ;

California, who recently murdered Keating,
has been indicted by the Grand Jury,
and immediately .arrested and sent to jail to
await his trial.

portion of the country, and on the town sitet
he so beautifully describes, and fully endorse

An Indlin Burial Ground. A
burial place of great apparent antiquity
hs.s recently been discovered on a hill
near the Atlantic House, at the head
of Nantasket beach. Some forty or
fifty depressions of the earth "were first
remarked directly by the roadside, in
closo proximity, and one or two of
.them being dug into from motives of
curiosity, human skeletons were dis
cpwed. On the fourth of July a party
of scientific gentlemen proceeded to
the spot and excavated several of the
graves, in each of which was found a
human skeleton in a sitting posture,
moro or less perfect, and near it hollow
stones, cups, stone pestles, and other
relics,, such as are commonly found in I

poses by some tribe who passed away

faces, and of whom no trace or tradition

"Wonderful Discovery at the
Mammoth Cave. Last Tuesday, the
11th inst., Stephen Bishop, the guide,
and three students, Robert Taylor,
Clarence Bate, and Wm. L. Stone,
ivhile rambling in the cave, discovered
an entirely unknown passage, of some
two miles in length. By- this important
discovery,-the cave; already the largest
in the world, is found to extend eleven
milc3 iE stead of nine miles, as has
hitherto lecn supposed. Thi? pas
sage wa3 found by the party to lead
to chambers far surpassing all those
formerly Jbiown, both in extent and
magnificence. It is supposed! that
this discovery will lead to others of
