This invitation is not confined to 'the residents
of Brbwnville and immediate 'vicinity, but is
extended to our readers anywhere and to any
one who may feel inclined, to "scribble for the
press." "We r.r? part'odarhj ' anxious to have a
regular .correspondent at every point in the
Territory, and will have,' even if compelled,
for no other purpose, to visit personally -'every
important (and we feel there is not an nim-

many years to come) point la Nebraska, to
secure the services of some competent person
to keep us posted in regard to "passing events,"
present and future prospects, &c Again we
say, any' one wha feels that he or she can
write a line that will Instruct or amuse, write.
More information can be given and gained by
communications, than ono may.at first imagine:
and more especially if this applicable, to the
farming portion of community. Mr. A. B. has
tried a plan of his own in planting, or raising
stock, which succeeds admirably; if so, let him
tell his neighbor, tht he may have the benefit
of the experiment. What "more appropriate
mode of communicating this information to ha
fellow farmer, than to write it out for r ublica-
.
ticn in the county paper.
Kaxsas Difficulties. We learn, from a
genlleinan "direct from Kansas, "that considera
ble excitement ret prevails in that Territory.
There has been as "recent affray in Franklin,

.A Mrs. Collins and" Miss Wnght were
drowned in tli'e Missouri; near Ponaphor, Kan
sas, on Sunday, the 18th May. They, in com
pany with several others,, were crossing the
river in a skiff, and landing immediately above
a' drift, were all carried under by the force of
the current.
Four good sized, comfortable dwellings have
been commenced and canjvlvtod (except plaster

buildings tolerably rapid, yet it is only in keep

The steamer. Arabia passed here on Thurs
day last, on her way to Sioux City, with the
largest lgad of passengers of the season: mostly
Mormons, on their way to Salt Lake.

arrested in St. Louis, last .weelc, on the extra
ordinary charge of attempting, to 'steal half a
dollar froni a dead man's eyes; was examined
before the 'Recorder and. discharged. It appeared-.'that
the -deceased bore some resem
blance to the brother of the accused, and the
latter, took-the money for the purpose of look
ing for a mark on the eye, by which his broth
er might; have been identified. An inquest
was', in progress at 'the time,, and nearly one
hundred persons were present. , .

she had seen a human being. . She inhabited

showed the greatest f Jar and surprise when ta
ken. She is now somewhat more subdued.
Sheo is apparently a young woman of about
twenty-five,-and the only marked pecularities
iri hef appearance, are in her coarse, rough hail,
And in her very large rolling eyes." She is yet
unable to talk, but will nndoubtly soon learn.
Music and chudren have, a soothing influence
upon her, and she examines various articles
with a good deal of curiosity. .''..

Such is the rapidity ' of accessions to our
population, that the telegrapa erection of dwel

The Ferry custom is increasing so rapidly,
that soon frieud3 Plasters & Bakxe will have

snows, from the mountains. J-The boats in this
trade are heavily laden; ' This is the season of

est freighting, for the entire year freights be
ing much lower than at any other time. .
An unusually large . number of new corners
looking fori homes in the Went, have crossed

family took claims in this county. They were
mostly from Ohio and Indiana;, a few from Il

We notice the arrival. at our Wharf of a
Portable Grist Mill. We understand it is
owned by Da. Hover, who intends erecting
it at Nemaha City, a beautifully located vil
lage five miles below here, at the mouth of the
Little Nemaha River.
Why don't some enterprising capitalist erect
a Merchant Mill in this place? There is
certainly no better point anywhere, a large
amount of grain will be raised in .this countv
alone, the present year, which in addition' to
lhat.of other adjoining counties" would give
such a Mill all tho custom desirable.
The Spirits " Disappointed. The
Steamship Ericsson arrived at New York in
safety yesterday from Liverpool. Mrs. Por
ter, a "spiritual medium," of New York,
prophesied that the vessel would be bumf d to
the water's edge before the 20th of April.
She should have waited until 'she was almost
certain of. the facts, as did her brethren
and sisters, who guided by a scientiflc hypoth
esis in a New York paper, predicted the fate
of the .Pacifiic after she had been out nearly
three months.
