Chef der Washington Po lijiei, soll heute mit den Militarbe Horden konferieren, um Verstärkung für seine Schutzmannschaft zu 5 er. kalten, um einen möglichen erneuten Ausbruch eines AufnchrI zivischen Weißen und Negern vorzubeugen. Die Störungen gestern abend und lzeute morgen bestanden in Faust kämpfen zwischen Gruppen von Weißen und Schwarzen. Ein Auf. lauf fand vor dem Distrikt.Gebnud? statt. Ein Neger wurde um da Schatzamtsgebäude gejagt und ein vnderer vor dem Weißen Hause an gegriffen. In mehreren Hotels fan den Kämpfe statt- Unter den weißen Aufrührern befanden sich zahlreiche weiße Soldaten. Obwohl . mehrere Dutzend verhaftet wurden, so war die Polizei nicht imstande, die Strci tenden auseinander zu treiben, ' da Kämpfe in den verschiedenen Stadt teilen zu gleicher Zeit stattfanden. Weiße trieben die Neger von ' der Pennsylvania Avenue in die Sei. tenstraßcn, wo sich die Neger fest, fetzten. Farbige Lenker von Polizei Ambulanzen mußten durch Weiße er setzt werden, um Gefahr zu vermei den. Die Verletzten lagen auf den Seitenwegen und konnten nicht fort gebracht werden. Juli Neuesten Berichten zufolge fuhren heilte kurz nach Mittag fünf Neger mit einem Auto am hiesigen Marinehospital vorbei und feuerten auf die im Gar ten desselben befindlichen Seeleute mehrere Revolverschüsse ab, die aber glücklicherweise ihr Ziel verfehlten. Mehrere mit Bürgern besetzte Autos machten sich sofort auf die Verfol gung der farbigen Bösewichter. doch gelang es denselben, sich in Sicher heit zu bringen. Aus benachbarten Städten in Maryland wurden ahn liche Vorfälle, die sich während dcr Nacht ereigneten, berichtet, doch wurde niemand dabei verwundet. In Turkestan, Asien kriegsgefangen Washington, 21. Juli. Laut ei ner hier vom amerikanischen Gene ralkonful inStockbolm eingegangenen Meldung sollen sich während des Mai an 27,000 österreichische und 3,000 deutsche Kriegsgefangene in Turkestan befunden haben- 11.000 davon, meistens Ungarn, sollen in die Volschewiki'Armee eingetreten sein, um dem Elend dcr Gefangen schaft zu entgehen. Die englische Ne gierung Wll im Januar schon die Sowiet'Regierung in Turkestan er sucht haben, dieselben durch die eng lischcn Linien nach ihrer Heimat zu befördern. Die- se Soldaten haben in Sibirien gegen die Bolschewistcn gckäinpst und be finden sich jetzt auf ihrer Heimreise nach Böhmen. Die Reise wurde m Vladivostok angetreten, und steht un ter Leitung des amerikanischen Ro ten Kreuzes. Die Soldaten haben Sonntag in San Diego, Calif., ei. neu begeisterten Empfang erhalten. Es befinden sich über 100 -Schwer, verwundete unter diesen Soldaten, die auf Tragbahren transportiert werden mußten. Der ganze Trupp Verwundeter begibt sich jetzt auf eine Woche zur Erholung nach Camp Kearney. Calif., worauf die Reise über den Kontinent nach New Jork angetreten wird, und von dort aus geht es nach Europa und dann nach Prag. Juli Nach Depeschen aus Essen an Schweizer Blatter ist es deutschen Fabrikanten nach an dauernden Experimenten gelungen, eine Gasolinturbine zu konstruieren. Flugzeuge, welche mit dieser neuen Maschine ausgerüstet sind, sollen im Stande sein, vollständig geräuschlos durch die Luft zu fliegen. Ten Depeschen zufolge sollen be reits verschiedene deutsche Flugzeuge mit diesen neuen Maschinen ausge rüstet worden seiis. DaS KriegSdcpartemcnt machte heute die Mitteilung, daß sich die numerische Stärke der Vcr. Staaten Armee am 14. Juli auf 782,000 Mann be zisserte. Hiervon befinden sich 282,. 000 in Europa, in den Ver. Staaten 372.000. in Sibirien 8,500. aus den Jnselbesitzungen 28,00. Aus dem Wege nach Frankreich befinden sich 500 Mann neuangeworbencr Truppen und an Bord von Schiffen, die sich auf der Fahrt von Frank reich nach den Ver- Staaten befinden, zählt man 91.000 Mann. Seit dem Waffenstillstand sind 2.946.804 Of fiziere und Mannschaften ausgemu stert worden. Präsident wllson ist gehobener Stimmung Washington. 19. Juli. Im Wei ßen Hause verlautet heute, daß Prä- sident Wilson mit dem Resultat der Konferenz zwischen ihm und den re publikanischen Senatoren sehr zufne den ist. Er ist von dem Gefühl durchdrungen, daß in diesen Konfe renzen vieles aufgeklärt worden ist, das für die " Senatoren Geheimnis war. Senatoren, mit welchen er Rücksprache genommen hat. sind dcr Ansicht, daß Hcrr Wilson über die Tchantung Angclegenhcit eine öffent liche Erklärung abgcbcn wird. Nach, sie Woche wird er, die Konferenzen mit Senatoren fortsetzen. Franz. Arbeiterführer fagen den Streik ab Paris, 19. Juli. Französische Arbeiterführer haben heute offiziell den aus den 21. Juli angekündigten allgemeinen Streik abgesagt. Dieser Akt seitens der Arbeiterführer war eine Folge des dem Nahrungsmittel minister Boret se-tens der Deputier tcnkammcr ausgestellten Mißtrauens. Siegesfeier in London verläuft glänzend London. 19. Juli. Alliierte Truppen, im ganzen 19,000 Mann, nahmen an dcr heute hier stattgc fundenen Siegesfeier teil. Die Pa rade wurde von 3,000 Mann ame rikanischer Truppen unter Fühnmg des Generals Pcrshing eröffnet. Die Franzosen hatten 8,000 Mann ge. stellt, die Italiener ebenso viele, während Belgien mit 400 Mann vertreten war. Serbien, Rumänien, Portugal, Japan. Polen. Tscheche slovaken. Griechenland. China und Siam hatten kleinere Abteilungen gestellt.
