Ein allgemeiner Friede auf sal diert Knmdlagen aufgebaut kann er wogen werden. Bis ein derartiger Friede gesichert werden kann, haben wir keine andere Wahl, als im Krie ge fortzufahren. So weit wir die Sachlage beurteilen können, sind die. se Prinzipien, die wir als grundle. gend ansahen, auch schon überall als zwingend angenommen worden, mit Ausnahme der Sprecher der tnilita riscken und annerionistischen Partei in Deutschland. Wenn sie irgendwo anders verworfen worden sind, so sind die Opponenten nicht zahlreich genug oder einflußreich genug ge Wesen, um ihre Stinunen hörbar zu machen. Ter tragische Umstand ist. ,daß diese eine Partei in Deutschland scheinbar willens ist und es vermag. Millionen von Männern in den Tod zu senden, um zu verhüten, was die ganze Welt jetzt als gerecht ansieht. Ich würde kein aufrichtiger Spre cher des Volkes der Wer. Staaten sein, wenn ich nicht nochmals wie. erholen würde, daß wir in den Krieg nicht einer zlleinigkeit wegen eingrifsen und daß wir von dem Wege, den uns das' Prinzip vor schreibt, abweichen können. Unsere Hilfsquellen sind jetzt zum Teil mo bilisiert und werden nickt eher ruben, bis sie dollständig emmltet sind. Un sere Armeen gehen rasch zur Schlacht, front ab und immer schneller werden sie dorthin entsendet werden. Un sere ganze Kraft wird in diesem Emanzipationskrieg entwickelt wer den eine Emanzipation von der Bedrohung und versuchten Vemeiste rung durch eine selbstsüchtige Gruppe autokratischer Herrscher. Wir sind in unserer Kraft unabhängiger Ak tion unbeugsam und können unter keinen Umständen in einer Welt le ben, die durch Intriguen und Ge walt beherrscht wird. Wir glauben, daß unsere Ansicht betreffs einer Neuschaffung der Dinge in der Welt, in welcher Vernunft und (berechtig' keit und das Interesse der ganzen Menschheit gewahrt werden, von al. len aufgeklärten Menschen geteilt wird. Ohne diese Neugestaltnuff der Dinge wird die Welt keinen -ieden haben und das nienschliche Leben wird einer erträglichen Existenz und einer Entwickelung verlustig gehen. Da wir uns ein für alle Mal borge, nommen haben, die'es zu vollbringen, gibt es für uns auch kein Zurück. Falls Kriegssekrctär Baker das Versenken der Tuscania als eine nene deutsche Herausfor dcrung betrachtet, sagt die genannte Zeitung, dann birgt die Ziikunft noch weitere derartige Heraus sor derungen in sich. Abschriften bcschworkner Aussagen von britischen Gefangenen, die aus Deutschland aus den Gefangenenlagern und tf. fpitälern zurückgekehrt sind, und die hier erhalten wurden, erzählen von sizstemotischer Grausamkeit gegen ita lienische Gefangene. Diese Angaben beschränken sich nicht auf ein einzeln nes Lager, sondern kominen aus ver schieden! Teilen Deutschlands und sind jüngeren Datums, da die mei.j sten der Soldaten vor einem Äonat! entladen worden waren. In Langensalza, Sachsen, sollen 2(W Italiener eingebracht worden sein, die in einer separaten Abteilung des Lagers hinter Stacheldrahtzäu nen gehalten wurden. Es heißt, daß sie von den Unteroffizieren unnoti gerweise mit 'lolben und Tegenschlä. gen traktiert wurden.. Schnell wurde ein Hagel von Maschinenge wehrgeschossen in der Richtung, nach der die Teutschen sich zurückgezogen, gesandt. In der Zwischenzeit starb der andere Verwundet, ein Sergeant, in den Armen eines Gemeinen, der ihm Hilfe bringen wollte. Maskenball des Gknaha Musikvereins Sainstag abend veranstaltete der Omaba Muftkverein seinen jährli chen Maskenball, der sich eines star ken Besuchs erfreute und einen für jeden Teilnehmer höchst vergnügten Verlauf nahin. Tic Zahl hübscher Einzelmasken und Gruppen war nicht gering, sudaß es den ' Preis richtern nicht leicht wurde, ihres AmteS zu walten. Ter Mummen schanz war eine der bestbcwchiesten Beranstaltungen des Vereins seit Einführung der leid-gcn, die se selligkeit so sehr störenden Prohibi tion.
