Charles D. Hilles, of Dobbs Ferry,
secretary to President Taft and
chairman of the republican national
committee, was appointed by Gover
nor Sulzer as a member of the board
of managers of the New York state
training- school for girls at Hudson.
"Mr. Hilles," said Governor Sul

county and would like to do some
thing for the state along charitable
and philanthropic lines. Hence I
thought he was just the man to ap

Hilles' nomination was received in
the senate, Majority Leader Wagner
moved its immediate confirmation
which was granted.
"In view not only of the distinc

the citizens of this state," said
Senator Wagner, "but also because
of the very valued and valiant ser
vice he rendered the democratic
party in the "last campaign, I move
his immediate confirmation."

A decision of eeneral Infprncf la
described In an Associated Press dis
patch from New York, as follows:
Restaurants that, provide wall hooks
for patrons to hang their coats and
hats on are responsible for such
property notwithstanding warnings
to the contrary printed on the menu
or placarded about the room. The
appellate division of the state su

affirming a judgment for $47 ob

PATRONAGE
Springfield Republican: William
J. Bryan has been for years disap
pointing nis critics through the
wisdom of his observations upon the
problems before the American
people. Ho has lately been por
trayed as likely to be insistent upon
occupying a place in the cabinet of
the next president, of the United
States. Against that imaginative
attitude It will be well to place the
following comment by Mr. Bryan In
The Commoner:
"Cabinet positions ought not to be
regarded as currency with which to
pay debts. They are responsible
positions and in filling them the
president-elect should look to the fu
ture and not to the past. A public
official has no right to discharge
political obligations at the expense
of the public. The men selected by
Mr. Wilson for the cabinet should be
selected, not because of personal
service rendered to him, nor even be
cause of past service rendered to the
party. Tho individual counts for
little; the cause counts for much.
An individual, if he had proper mo
tive for working, finds sufficient cora-
This addition to the long established and old
reliable Hart-Parr line, is our answer to the constantly
increasing demand for a medium power tractor. A
tractor built especially for farms as small as 160 acres.
Many inexperienced builders
have rushed pell-mell into the field
with, untried, untested small size
tractors. Even with our many
years of tractor building experience,
we were not satisfied to do this.
First, we gave long, careful thought
to the power problems of the small
farm. We studied the requirements
from every angle. Then we de
signed and built this 25 B.H. P. trac
tor especially to meet these condi
tions. Next, we gave this tractor
a thoro, searching shop and field
test. Step by step, we modified
and strengthened it No guess work
at any stage.
And nowv that we ourselves are
convinced that this new Twenty
five is right, we offer it to the
fanner as the only small tractor
that really is efficient, reliable and
economical in every respect. It
will prove a profitable investment
on farms of 160 to 320 acres. And
tho price is within reach of the
small farmer's pocket book.
Tho samo general features of
construction which have made our
30,40 and 60 B.H. P. outfits so suc
cessful, arc embodied in this new
Hart-Parr model. It is built almost
entirely of steel, thus insuring
greatest strength with light weigh.
The drive wheels are cquipt with
our wonderful wave form lugs,
making the tractor well fitted for
work on soft soil.
In combination with the Hart-Parr-Sattley
Self -Lift Plow, shown
in the illustration, it forms a strict
ly One-Matt Outfit. It will easily
take the place of 10 sturdy horses
and do the work better, quicker
and cheaper. It has two working
speeds 1.8 and 2.6 miles per hour.
It uses cJieapest kerosene for
fuel at all loads, and is oil cooled.
Write today for illustrated circular fully describing tk
important featuret of this new Hart-Parr Oil Tractor.

There is plenty of sound patriot
ism and wise philosophy ia that,
and th writer of it practices what
he preaches. Those who know Mr.
Bryan at all well will be sure that
he has not been knocking at Wood

whether he believes that his unques

opinion would be enhanced by any
position within the gift of the com
