apply. The appointee will only

session, but must then be steadily

day is spread by filibuster or other
parliamentary process over a span
of several ordinary calendar days.
This vacancy was created last Sat-
urday by 'the sudden death of A. C.
Welch, of Tennessee, the ranking offi
cial stenographic reporter of the
house who; for twenty-six years, had
been actively reporting the proceed
ings of the house. Speaker Cannon.

care to make the appointment, Mr.
Cannon replied: 'I'm afraid you

market for an 'official stenographer.'
