Bryan asked in his speech at Indianapolis yesterday if it is to be part of the new nationalism "to drag newspaper editors to Washington charged with libel whenever any thing is printed that may not be pleasing to the new government." Why not? Under the new national ism the president is to he "the stew ard of the public welfare." A stew ard of the public welfare must not permit "a1 libel upon the United States government," and anything is a libel upon the United States gov ernment which criticises the official conduct of the steward of the public welfare and his associates. Newspa per editors must be dragged to Wash ington for trial in order that the steward of the public welfare may personally supervise the administra tion of justice and see that sedition is properly punished.
