He adds that Dela ware county, joining Madison on the east, gave Mr. Roosevelt 4900 in 1904 while Mr. Tatt carried it by 1788, a change of more than 2000 votes in Mr. Bryan's favor. F. L. Wacholz of Forest City, la., writes: "Wo made a fine showing in this county and increased our vote 174 per cent over the vote four years ago. Mr. Parker polled 174 in this county in 1904, and Mr. Bryan polled 477 in November, 1908. We think wo are entitled to the. mule for showing this large percentage of increase. This county at one time had the Tippecanoe banner for the strongest republican county in Iowa." J. S. Qormley of Shawnee, Ohio, writes that Perry county, Ohio, gave Mr. Roosevelt in 1904, 2300 ma jority; this year Mr. Taft carried it by 419 a gain of 1882. John F. Fleharty of Niles, Ohio, reports gains in five precincts in the city of Niles, Ohio, as follows: 340 per cent, 277 per cent, 356 pur cent, 123 per cent, 450 per cent. A. M. Gooding and C. H. Liecken by of Steamboat SpringB, Colo., sends this wire: "Neither Maryland nor Boulder counties, Colorado, is in It. Our Bryan vote 1407, Parker 854; increase 64.75 per cent. Routt coun ty, the new empire of the west, claims the mule. Send it via Moffat xoad prepaid, as we went broke on the campaign." W. N. Coffland of Viroqua, Wis., writes: "It may be that this (Ver non) county 4s entitled to the famous mule. I confess I do. not know what we would do with nim if we had him here. But if we are entitled to him will fm,d some. way-to use- .him. At the election in this county in 1904 Parker received 762 votes. At the recent election Bryan received 1561 votes, a gainof,pl05 per cent. Roose velt ..received In 1904 4744 votes. Taft, 1908, 4114. Mule or no mule we think we did fairly well. . H. L. Hansen of Mcintosh, Minn., writes: "The mule goes to H. L. Hansen, qr L. J. Dahl of Hill River township. In 1884 at our first elec tion, one democratic vote was cast; in 1904, seven, democratic votes; in 1908, thirty-flye democratic votes for Bryan, forty-five .for Taft. In Polk county, 1904, 3549 republi cans and 696 democrats. In 1908, Taft 3311, Bryan 1929, a gain of 500 per cent for township and 277 per cent for county. I drove oxen at first here, now I am driving horses with good success and I am quite sure I can manage the mule. Glad to see you are in good spirits after our defeat." Thomas F. Knop, Kewaunee, Wis., writes that in his. county the repub lican majority In 1904 was 121; in 1908 the democrats had a' majority of 141. Henry O. Andrew, Boulder Colo., wires: Don't let Maryland have that trick mule; Boulder county claims it; vote for you at November elec tion shows an increase of 43 per cent over Parker.
