Referring to this organization the
Huntsville Mercury says: "The club
has a working organization and It is
stated that there are over six hun
dred signers in Madison county to
the membership rolls, which have
been circulated here by the active
Bryan democrats during the last few
days. Colonel John W. Tomlinson
delivered an .address in the county
court house previous to the organ
ization of the club. lie was heard
by a large crowd. He was intro
duced by A. D. Kirby who said that
Mr. Tomlincon was one of the
stanuchest democrats in the state,
and a close personal friend of Mr.
Bryan and that no better man could
be found for delegate at large to the
national democratic convention at
Denver. He said the democrats with
Bryan as their leader would win in
the approaching national campaign,
the prospects for democratic success
being brighter now than for many
years past. He ascribed several
reasons for this, namely, the money
panic and the resulting hard times,
the fact that the use of the big cor
poration corruption fund of the re
publican party has been outlawed
by public opinion and because the
democrats of the nation are stand

is not divided in this campaign, he I
said, as it has been in preceding
campaigns and the visit of Mr. Bryan
in the east and north and his en
thusiastic reception by the demo
crats of those sections was cited as
an illustration to prove this. He
said it was a plan of Bryan's to have
a democratic campaign committee
organized in every voting precinct
in the United States. Colonel Tomlin
son said that if left alone, the senti
ment of the country is democratic.
Plowever, the use of corruption funds
and the open purchase of votes has
given the--victory to the republicans
for several years past. Senator Mor
gan wrote a few months before his
death that if the democrats do not
win in the approaching election the
special interests will become so in
trenched that democratic success in
the future will be impossible. 'No
matter how splendid be our leader
ship,' Colonel Tomlinson concluded,
'we may lose unless we organize for
the fight. We want working demo
cratic clubs everywhere. The moral
effect of organizations in every pre
cinct will be a great point with the
doubtful voters and will bring them
to us. It is the wish of Mr. Bryan
to increase the popular vote for the
democratic candidates as well as
secure a majority of the electoral
vote.' President Kirby accepted the
honor tendered him and stated he
would give as much time as necess
ary in prosecuting the work of the
club. Colonel Tomlinson left yester
day afternoon for Scottsboro to or
ganize a club in that town. He has
visited several other counties in the
Eighth district and has organized
Bryan clubs in the following cities:
Florence, Sheffield, Moulton, Court
land and Decatur. Committees were
appointed for the various precincts
in the county who will begin actively
at work to enroll all democratic vot
ers as members of the club."
At St. Joseph, Mo., the democracy
of Buchanan county organized a Bry
an club one thousand strong.
Democrats of the Third ward at
Pekin, 111., have organized a Third
Ward Bryan club with the following
officers: President, Henry Rust;
secretary, John H. Ottman.
A Bryan club with a large mem
bership has been organized at John
son City, Tenn . and at once begins
an active campaign for the futher
ance of democratic principles and pol
icies. H. H. Dyer is president and
James O. Lewis is secretary.
The Bryan club at Laramie, Wyo.,
