Every Commoner Reader May Lend a Hand
Now 'is tho time to organize democratic
clubs, the purpose of which shall bo to see that
all delegates elected to couuty, state and na
tional conventions will vote for a platform and
candidates that insure "equal rights to all and
special privileges to none."
The Commoner is organizing an army of
one million workers to bring about a real dem
ocratic victory. Your earnest co-operation is
needed in this work: To enable those who will
assist in the coming campaign to receive current
literature each week and to keep in touch with
the progress of tho campaign, we will send The
Commoner weekly from now until the next presi
dential election to all who will sign and Teturn
to us one of the certificates of member
ship in The Commoner Army, accompanied by
sixty cents to cover the cost of sending the
paper. A prompt response to this call will be
an assurance that you approve of The Com
moner's effort to bring success to democratic
arms.
Cut out, sign and return the certificate
printed on this page for your own membership.
Or if you do 'not care -to mutilate your copy of
The Commoner send in a request asking for a
number of blank certificates and they will be
forwarded to you, thus enabling you to give your
acquaintances an opportunity to join in the work
of building up the "army of a million plan' and
enabling them also to secure The Commoner
from now until November 1908 for only sixty
cents.
From all sections, of the country come as
surances of co-operation in the effort to carry to
a successful conclusion The Commoner's "million
army plan."
Extracts from some of the letters received
at The Commoner office follow:
B. C. Daves, Weatherford, Okla. I send
you money order for two subscriptions. Send
me more certificates. I hope this plan will end
in a great democratic victory.
Jens Davidson, Westby, Wis. Inclosed find' .
check for $18, for which please send me sub
scription cards to The Commoner, that I may
do a little for the good cause. Hoping I may
redeem myself in the future I remain.
A. M. Dalrymple, Salem, Orev About six c
months ago I suggested that each reader and.
friend of The Commoner pay for four or six
months subscription to some republican friend,
and have been waiting ever since to' see how
the proposition would take. Now I see in last
week's paper that F. M. Hall has made the same
proposition; but he has gone me one better and
sent in one dollar to pay a year's subscriptioji
to one of his republican friends. I don't intend
that anyone shall beat me at my own game so
enclose $1 to pay six months subscription to
The Commoner to H. S. Dalrymple, Lake Ge
neva, "Wis., and six months to Hardy Halman,
rSr., Dallas, Ore. One is my father and the other .
f3. w., nV.,M l 1 ,1 I 4-1 -1 1 4-1. V
regular subscribers and vote the democratic
ticket in 1908 I'll place them on my list of "un
desirable citizens."
George N. Parker, Robinson, 111. Herewith
find draEt for $6 to pay for enclosed list of ten
new subscribers. This makes forty I have sent
you. Please send me a bunch of sample copies
and send The Commoner commencing with the
week before last.
Wm. H. Greene, Dillsboro, Ind. Enclosed
you will find the three certificates signed and
money order for $1.80, payment for Commoner
as per agreement stated in certificate. If you
will send me a few more certificates I will en
deavor to secure more enlistments in the cause.
J. W. McGovern, LeClaire, la. I send you
60 cents and certificate of membership in The
Commoner army. The prosperity wave has
struck us in Scott county, Iowa. Hogs are $3
per hundred weight cheaper than in April, 1907.
Everything is on the toboggan. I think this
ought to demonstrate to the people of this coun
try that tho gold standard, or single standard,
is not what the people want. It has proven in
this case to be the money of the immensely rich,
as today all the business dono in Davenport,
Iowa, Scott County, is done on cashiers' checks
showing that wo lire short of gold that is locked
up by the money men. I hope for success in
1908.
F. P. Rhoads, Dodham, Iowa. Enclosed
you will find postofllce order and membership
certificate. I -realize that it will be the fight
of Mr. Bryan's life to defeat the asset currency
scheme. Tho panic that we have is the biggest
joke on the republican party that 4ias happened
for a long time. The farmer is the one that is
going to get it in the neck, for thirty days at
least. Prices on manufactured goods do not go
down as quickly as farmers' products.
J. W. Armstrong, Norman, Okla. I send
you money order for $1.80 for three subscribers.
Please send some certificates and I will try to
secure more. I bid you God speed in the good
work you are doing for vthe masses.
L. W. Kelley, Fairmont, W. Va. I enclose
you money order for $1.80 to pay for three sub
scriptions. Please send me a few more certifi
cates and whenever and wherever I can get a
subscriber I will be glad to do so.
George. W. Taylor, LaCrosse, "Wash. Here
with find four new subscribers. I secured these
in five minutes. If you send me a few more
certificates will rustle a little for The Commoner.
S. D. Martin, Chicago, 111. I enclose three
membership certificates. Mail me more certifi
cates. I think I can have them all filled out
and I believe they will do good.
J. P. O'Dell, Folsom, N. M. I send you
check for five subscriptions. I will make an
effort to place The Commoner in the hands of
every English speaking democrat in this vi
cinity. Peter Cramer, Gates, Ore. Find enclosed
money order for $1.80 for three subscriptions
and please send me more of the certificates, and
I will do all Lean to assist in bringing success
to democratic arms.
F. F. Wineman, LeRoy, Kan. Enclosed
find postoffice money order for 60 cents for
which send one copy of The Commoner to the
address, G. W. Ringle, LeRoy, Kans. Please
send me some subscription blanks for The Com
moner. I will send some more subscribers.
M. J. Williams, Louisburg, Kan. Enclosed
find money order for $l.f0 for three subscrip
tions. Please send more certificates. Hurrah
for true democracy.
Charles B. Stillwell, Bryan, Texas. Here
is a little batch of eight subscribers, all new, to
The Commoner: Ed Hall, R. A. Stuart, Jolly J.
Jones, R. 4; I. J. Holligan, A. A. Dean, John
Kosarek, R. 5; W. R. Goen, R. 3; S. D. Jones,
R. 3, all Bryan, Texas. Money order for $4.80
enclosed. I enclose my certificate of member
ship in The Commoner Army of One Million.
Why not make it eight million? Yours to the
end.
A. J. Burk, Newtonia, Mo. Please send-to
W. R. Moore, Wanda, Mo., three copies of The
Commoner commencing November 8, together
with certificate,
W. B. Fleming, 62 East 36th St., Chicago,
111. The letter of Senator Foraker announcing
his candidacy for the presidency and the reported
interview between Senator Scott and the presi
dent emphasize the magnitude of the cleavage
now taking place in the republican party. The
war is on between j,he Roosevelt and anti-Roosevelt-
factions, and this republican extremity is
democratic opportunity. The need of the hour
is that our party shall have a candidate who
stands for all the good, without any of the evil
that Mr. Roosevelt stands for. The way is
cleared not only for the nomination but the elec
tion of such a man. The democratic party has
had to wait a long time for such an opportunity
Will it avail itself of it? No plan so far sug
gested for this end Is comparable to The Com
moner's plan of an army of- a million. The bat
tle is to be won by the rank and file of the party
and the "army of the million" will be made up
of the rank and file. One million of earnest
workers in the cause will Insure success, but
the sooner they are enrolled the better. I pledge
myself to enlist one hundred of such recruits.
How many others will make a similar pledge?
W. M. Kirby, Springfield, Mo. I send you
two subscribers and certificates. I believe it
would be to the interest of the democratic party
to hold the national convention before the re
publicans have theirs, and adopt a platform that
can not be misunderstood by any. Make it clear
on all questions. I hope The Commoner will
have a million circulation in a short time.
George W. Cundiff, New Haven, W. Va. I
send you two new subscribers. Send me some
certificates. I want to see how many I can get
to join the club and take Tne Commoner. I
want to do all I can for the grand old democratic
party.
J. H. Davis, Borden, Ind. Please forward
to the following Th6 Comomner until after the
next presidential election as per your offer in
last issue and register their names in the cause
of democracy as construed by your valuable
paper.
O. S. Gibson, Arkansas City, Kan. En
closed find draft for $7.. 20, being in payment of
The Commoner, as per your advertisement, un
til after election, 1908, for herewith named
parties. I think The Commoner is doing a great
work. It seems to me that the democrats of
this nation should work harder at the present
time than they ever have before. The repub
lican party has allowed the v corporations and
big moneyed institutions to get control of the
people's money in this country, and have created
a panic.
A. H. Covert, Ira Station, N. Y. Please
find enclosed $1.80 for membership of myself
and two others in The Commoner army for
1908.
J. R. Gorrell, Newton, la. Find enclosed
three membership certificates for The Com
moner army for 1908, and draft for $1.80. I
have been a subscr-iber to the paper since the
first number. I gladly enlist in the great army
that I hope will sweep this country. I shall
have in the campaign of 1908 the same pride
and enthusiasm felt by the members of the in
vincible Grecian phalanx of Alexander the Great,
by the legions of Caesar, or by the old guard of
Napoleon. Send me twenty or more membership
certificates
W. H. Brown, Sparksville, Ind. I enlist
wUh new energies, new hopes, new faith. I be
lieve the victory will be ours in 1908. Here is
hoping success. Your obedient servant till our
people shall be redeemed from republican ruin.
I will secure a club at my earliest convenience.
