If he escapes there is something so rotten with tho law and the admin istrators of the law that they want the demonstration made so that they will know where the rottenness is. Public opinion will continue to demand his prosecution in spite of the opinion of Senator Cullom that the prosecution would fail, or, indeed, in spite of such a pessimistic view by any other authority, however high, than the United States courts. The prosecution of "Harriman would be worth while if it did nothing more than to prove that crimes of sueh enormity and infamy can be committed in this country without incurring the consequences that attend the paltry peculations of a clerk or the pllferiiigs of a shoplifter.
