MARCH 9, 190C The Commoner. Primary Pledge Plan As this copy of The Commoner may be read by some one not familiar with the details of the primary pledge plan, it is necessary to say that according to the terms of this plan every demo crat is asked to pledge himself to at tend all the primaries of- his party to be held between now and the next democratic national convention, unless unavoidably prevented, and to secure a clear, , honest and straightforward declaration of the party's position on every question upon which the voters of theparty desire to speak. Those, desiring to be enrolled can either write to The Commoner approving the Qbject of the organization and asking to have their names entered on the roll, or they can fill out and mall the blank pledge, which is print e d onthis page. E. S. Bishop, Van, Va.I believe 1 1 have read every issue of your valu able paper from the first number pub lihsed to the last issue, and I approve every principle it advocates, and am interested in increasing its circula tion, for I sincerely believe that upon the success of the principles of the democratic party depends the success and the perpetuity of this govern ment, for every day we see new evi dences of the corruption of the repub lican party. So it behooves the people for our self-preservation, without, re gard to party lines, to rally to the cause adyocated by The Commoner, and do all we can to aid in the battle waged .by our great leader, W. J. Bryan. John Headrick, Alexandria, Nebr. Find enclosed primary pledge signed by 38 names. I went o"uton Commoner Day and secured 24 of them. J. P. Cooley, Brownsville, Oregon Find pledge signed by sixteen staunch democrats who will stay through thick and thin. Levi R. Chaney, Stella, Nebr. It gives me much pleasure to do any thing that will tend to advance true democraoy. I have had the primary pledge properly signed by thirty-five good democrats. T. B. Clark, Otterville, Mo. En closed I send primary pledge with thirty-five names. I am too feeble to get out much. I went to a public sale and got the list filled in short order. I have always worked for the demo cratic party and have never lived in a voting precinct that was not safely democratic. . Jacob Welch, Kansas City, Mo. -Enclosed find forty-one signatures to the primary pledge. I am pleased to be able to help in the primary pledge matter as I am a democrat first, last and all the time. Wright, Sterrett, Okla. I here with enclose a list of seventy-seven democrats who have signed the pri mary pledge in our town. I got this list up in a short time. Dave White, Peck, W. Va. I have arranged with the editor of the Sun who heads the enclosed list, to pub lish the pledge in his paper and urge democrats to fill out and return same to his office. Later I will take copy of signatures and forward same to yu-, We believe in this way we can get the most pledges. Hope this plan will meet with your approval, and that our next platform will be democratic and merit success, for I can not and will not support a straddle. E. H. Mills, Colorado Springs, Colo. I am. heartily in favor of the pri mary pledge inode of; organization, it is a winner. With the enormous circulation of . The Commoner, and starting out, at this early date, will leave scarcely any territory unorgan ized in the United States long before our next campaign opens. J. M. Haverfield, La Monte, Mo. I enclose twenty-one pledges secured in a few minutes. I wish to congratulate you on the work you are doing in bringing the democratic party together, which in my opinion, is the hope of the country. I will enclose twenty-two names to the pri mary pledge. I approve of the'primary pledge plan, and' think that this is the greatest time for democratic awaken ing there has been for eight years. What democrat could get discouraged when we Refi fiVfirv rtnv mnro nnrl mnro ,of democratic principles endorsed by iwwuiwi uu iiio icuuiivauoi rut myself, I am" more encouraged today than ever." H. W. Frazier, Kimballton, Va. En closed please find five subscription cards. I think there is no better plan for organizing the democratic party than to. circulate The Commoner, for it does not require a pledge from a reader of The Commoner to get him to attend all primaries of the party and cast his vote for true democratic principles. I hope every subscriber to The Commoner will sacrifice a small portion of his time at least and send in a few names, and by so doing help the party on to victory. I will endeavor to do all I can in that way for the cause. A. J. Slavey, Henderson, Ky. En closed you will find the primary pledge with forty signatures. Send me an other blank and also some Com moners, and I will do all I can for the success of the primary pledge organ ization plan. W. B. C. Kendall, Mannington, W. Va. Enclosed find primary pledge. I think this primary pledge business is a good thing and all democrats should whoop it up. W. B. Chapman, Washta, la, En close my primary pledge, a pledge which I shall keep sacred. I am de lighted with Mr. Bryan's letters. They are models in simplicity, style and "modesty. In The Commoner for Janu ary 26, D. M. Hall, Washington, D.
