I., March 10, says: The democratic state conven tion assembled here today to name eight delegates to tho national con vention at St. Louis. This was not only tho first state gathering o demo crats to choose delegates to take part in tho nomination of a presidential candidate in tho 1904 campaign, but was of intorest also because of a etrugglo which had developed be tween two wings of the party over tho question of instructing the dele t gates whom to support as presidential ' nominees. Fitgerald of Pawtuckot, democratic leader in the state house of representatives, de manded that the delegates be in structed to favor William R Hearst of Now York.
