One band of these Armenians was recently exterminated by the Turkish troops, arid the weap ons which the Kurds of the' district were recently compelled to give up have been redistributed to them again. The charges recently made against Charles H. Dietrich of Hastings, Neb., United States senator, In connection with certain transactions In postofllce appointments and rentals, are the sub ject of investigation by the grand jury in session at Omaha, Neb. It Is be lieved that this Investigation will re auire about two weeks or more. It is charged that Mr. Dietrich secured a compensation from the postmaster at Hastings for his efforts to secure his appointment and also that Senator Dietrich secured the removal of the postofllce. into his own building at an exorbitant rental. v The state of Missouri had completed its claim against the United States for $475,186.13 and on November 9 it was forwarded to Senator Cockrell for presentation to the treasury depart ment at Washington. This claim is made for civil war expenses. The twenty-third annual convention of' the American Federation of Labor opened its sessions at Boston, on No vember 9 and will continue at least fourteen days. It was reported from Kenhardt, Cape Col ony, on November 9 that Hottentot rebels numbering 1,500 were approach ing the border and severe fighting was expected. In an engagement of British troops with an Arab tribe, near Aden, Arabia, recently, several British troopers were wounded and the tribe sustained heavy losses. On November 10 Governor Toote of Montana called a special session of the legislature to meet on December 1 to pass laws to relieve the Industrial condition in Montana caused by the shutting down of Amalgamated com pany's properties, whereby 15,000 men were thrown out of work and 15,000 more affected.
