A swim meet for 12 and 13 year
old boys was conducted on Satur
day, January 10th, at 2:00 p.m. in
the YMCA pool.
The following events were ran
off:
40 yard free style; 80 yard free
style; 40 yards breast stroke; 80
yard breast stroke; 120 yards in
dividual medley and a 150 yard
free style medley.
The meet was under the direc
tion of Buford Johnson, of the
YMCA Physical Education De
partment.
A basketball tournament for
grade school clubs was held dur
ing the Christmas vacation period.
This is an annual event held at
the YMCA.
Teams participating were:—
Central Branch
Cornhuskers Belmont
Golden Arrows Scarecrows
South Lincoln
Saratoga Shooting Stars
Sheridan Normal Rockets
Northeast
Huntington
The Shooting Stars under the
leadership of Joe Kubert and
coached by Jerry Williamson,
walked off with the Champion
ship, defeating the Cornhuskers,
led by Jake Derig and John
Reiter.
’ The annual Christmas basket
ball tournament, was held during
the holidays at the Central branch
of the YMCA.
Teams representing the Central
Branch were: Junior Leaders,
Globetrotters. Optimists, Flam
ming Arrows, Wild Cats, Silver
Eagles, and the Sunflowers. Rep
resenting the South Lincoln Ex
tension, were College View and
Irving Junior Hi-Y. The Mon
archs represented the Northeast
Branch.
The champions were the Mon
archs, who defeated the Leaders!
37 to 27. Irving Junior Hi-Y, fin
ished in third place.

the half-time of last Monday’s
basketball game. The team, in
uniform, jumps through a diffi
cult and sparkling routine using

went to Omaha to see the basket
ball battle between Omaha U. and
Wichita U. Charles is from Wichi
ta, Kansas. Oline Foxall and Wini
fred Winston were also in Omaha
this week end.
A mid-term vote of thanks to
the Student Union of the Univer
sity of Nebraska. Each student
pays for a Student Union mem
bership in the matriculation fee,
which entitles him to all the fa
cilities offered: ping-pong, tele
vision, cards, the Book Nook and
the Music Room. The Corn Crib,
a soda and cold lunch fountain,
and the Round-Up which serves
hot meals three times daily, is;
operated for the students' con
venience at low prices. The Union
sponsors special programs during^
the year which vary from a for
mal concert by the University j
Singers to a pop appearance by
Vaughn Monroe and a night clubi
party featuring Cliff Dudley.
