D. C. Opens 1st Mixed Playsite W AS HINGTON — Segregation* moved one step nearer its end in the nation’s capital last Thurs day when the Board of Recrea tion voted 5-2 to integrate the1 highly controversial Rosedale playground. This playground, hitherto “for white only,” has been a storm center for more than a year, and citizens in its area had led a sustained fight against segregation which was joined by more than sixty civic and welfare groups. The NAACP said that the Rose dale integration order would not, however, halt the suit against segregation in recreation facili ties in the city which was filed in August, 1951. Rosedale was expected to re open Monday under its . new “all races” policy, but D. C. Commis sioners were pondering a delay Sunday. If by character, faithfulness and race devotion he has served the in terests of the Negro minority as dilligently and fairly as he has served the interests of the State as a whole, all trivialities should be removed, and the interests of the group thus promoted. I do not claim to be perfect in my legislative career, but I challenge any man to show superior pres tige than that which I exercise in the Senate Chamber of our state. “I am thankful to say to all the people of my group in Omaha that no man running for office ean claim a higher cooperation by the people of his blood than I have received at your hands. I have undying gratitude for that support of the past, and pray God that I may merit your support in the future. I want to urge every voter of my race to beware of unfounded propaganda de |Wilkins to Speak Before Missouri NAACP By NORMA WALL JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — (ANP) — Roy Wilkins, national administi-ator of the NAACP, will be principal speaker at the Mis souri state NAACP conference i which convenes in Jefferson City, Oct. 24, according to A. P. Mar shall, local branch president. State president Stuart Parker, Columbia, Mo., expects delegates from most of Missouri’s 26 branches to attend the three-day session. Other state officers are Mrs. Velma Woodson, Kansas City, secretary, and L. P. Bolor, Charleston, treasurer. signed to swerve him away from proper race support. “I am asking every voter of our group to go early to the polls and give me their support, solely up on a basis of legislative merit. ! am glad to say that I stand upon my record. That record has been in the public interest. That rec ord may be found out from the public records, and no man needs to guess. For more than forty years, I have fought the battles of my people, and I will continue to do so as long as I have that trust. “The race in Omaha has done a colossal job through the service of your social agents, th§ YWCA, the YMCA, the Urban League the NAACP, the Woodson Center, the lodges, the churches and min isters, the Parent-Teachers As sociation, Colored Women’s Clubs, many well known organizations engaged in civic work, the press and your present state sen ator. I will resist any man who undertakes to deter the race from further progress. I am pleading with my race to stand together in this campaign, and to be vigi lant in stopping those who in tend to disturb our efforts to ob tain better opportunities and se curity. | CONGRATULATIONS I ALLEN'S FRIENDLY | DRUG STORE .
