given a surprise shower lor her
new home August 2nd by Mrs.
Osceola Nathan and Mrs. Helen
Gill. Those who helped make this

diction of the Methodist church.

week for an indefinite stay in
Monroe, La.

Misses Robbie Lee and Freddie
Louise Powell, daughters of the
Rev. and Mrs. R. H. Powell spent
the week-end visiting friends in
St. Joseph and Kansas City, Mis
souri.

Miss Kathryn Thompson, a so
cial worker in Pittsburgh, Pa.,
has returned to Lincoln and was
hospitalized and underwent sur
gery at Lincoln General hospital
on Thursday.

Urban League Baby
Contest Closes
The closing of the Urban
League baby contest held at New
man Methodist church on Thurs
day was a gala affair. A lovely
mother goose rhyme pageant
which was centered around the
old woman in the shoe was given.
Charles Bonds, son of Mr. and
Mrs. J. B. Bonds gave several 1
piano selections. The decorations *
including the shoe was painted 1
by Edward Qualls. Mr. James 1
Watkins made the presentations of
the awards to: Kennetta Brown, ,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ken- !
netah Brown, 1st award, and 2nd
award to Walter Bell, 3rd, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bell, Jr. Mrs.
Lenora Letcher was general chair
man of the program.

Turn cake mix into bowL Add
remaining ingredients and beat 2
minutes. (Beat vigorously by hand
