MATHHEW BECOMES A

Scripture — Matthew :) 9-17
Luke 5:27-39.
Memory Selection—Those who
! are well have no need of a phy
j sicianu, but those who are sick; I
1 have not come to call the righte
ous, but sinners to repentance.
Luke 5:31, 32.
PRESENT-DAY APPLICATION
By Frederick D. Jordan

Have you heard it said that the
Disciples were all poor and un
learned men? Matthew was
neither. Jesus indeed was no
respecter of persons, for He called
all types of men into His service;
the rich and the poor, the learned
and the ignorant. Each had a
special contribution to make. An
other fact in the choosing of
Matthew is that this man unpopu
lar in the community. Just be
cause a person is not in your cir
cle of friends, or because he is of
a different racial group does not
exclude him from the love of
Jesus. Some times in our churches
we who have been in a few years
longer than others, refuse to rec
ognize their leadership ability. We
all may be followers of Jesus, and
may exclude none from our fel
lowship who have answered His
call.

Yellow Cab Company to
Hire Negro Drivers
I CHICAGO— (ANP) — Anothei
battle in the war to open up bet
ter job opportunities for Negroes
appeared to be won when the Yel
low Cab company of Chicago an
nounced that applications now
would be accepted from colored
men for jobs as cab drivers.
In a special release issued last
week, the company pointed out
that cab drivers work on a
straight commission basis and
may earn up to $100 per week.
This step by the Yellow Cab
company marked the first time
that Negroes have been consid
ered and offers a new field of
employment for them.
