Twenty years of service was
celebrated by the Lincoln Urban
league at an open house Friday
which marked the beginning of its
fall season.
The league staged a pageant,
“Years of Progress,” to tell the
story of its first two decades.
Miss Barbara Moore’s dance
group demonstrated the current
work «f the league. The Urban
League Choral group participated.
Miss Beverly George was guest
soloist.
Harry Peterson was in charge
of the program.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Nevels had
as their house guest recently Mrs.
Alise Turner from Omaha, Ne
braska.

Miss Freddie Powell, daughter
of the Rev. and Mrs. R. H. Powell
spent the week in Lincoln. On
Tuesday she returned to Lincoln
with twa bus loads of dadent
nurses to attend student day at
the Nebrarica Annual nurses con-|
vention held at the Lincoln this
week. Among student nurses at- *
tending from Lincoln are Martha
Hammonds and Ada Coffey.
Miss Gladys Moore had as her
dinner guests the past week Mr.
and Mrs. Oscar Moss. Miss Moore

Mr. Roscoe Perry is planning a
week or ten-day hunting trip for
the very near future.

Mr. and Mrs. James Higgins of
Denver, Colorado stopped over in
Lincoln Sunday to visit Mr. and
Mrs. R. W. Ambers. The Hig
gineses had visited relatives in
Des Moines and Council Bluffs,
Xa.

An interesting visitor from
Pasadena the past week was
Charles A. Williams, a former
Lincolnite. He was house guest
of his daughter and son-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Jackson, ft I
was his first visit here since he
left fourteen years ago. Mr. Wil
liams, who was a member of
Newman Methodist church and
was affiliated with the choir is
now a member of People’s In
dependent church of Christ, an in
ter-racial organization in Los An
geles.

Miss Sammy Marie Douglas left |
last week for Chicago, 111. She
had been visiting her sister, Mrs.
Ruth Alexander. Several parties
were given in her honor.

The Lincoln Urban League will
honor three of it’s football stars
' during the month erf October. The
week of Oct. gth-13th will be
named, Ted King Weew. The
week of Oct. 15-2©th will be Rich
ard McWilliams Week, both play
ing for the Links. Nebraska’s
(Tom Carodine will be Oct. 22nd
27th. Pictures will be on display,
according to Lynnwood Parker,
executive secretary of the Urban
League.

Apple Pudding Delight
2 cups sliced apples 14 teaspoon lemon
1 cup water extract
V4 cup sugar 14 teaspoon almond
*4 teaspoon sslt extract
% cup tapioca 14 cup i»m
2 cups milk 2 egg whites, beaten
2 egg yolks *4 CUP confectioner's
1 teaspoon vanilla sugar
Boil apples and water 5 min
utes. Add suga* and boil 10 min
utes. Cook in double boiler 15
minutes, the salt, tapidfca and
milk, add apple mixture and
yolks. Cook 5 minutes. Add ex
tracts and pour into shallow but
tered baking dish. Spread with
jam and cover with egg whites
to which confectioner’s sugar has
been added. Bake 2C minutes in
slow oven. Serve warm or cold,
plain or with cream.

40 minutes .in moderately slow
oven. Invert pan until cake has
coaled; it can then be loosened
and will easily slip out. Sift flour
and sugar separately three times
before measuring.

2 teaspoons lemon juice
Mix all ingredients and boil to
a soft ball (240 degrees Fahren
heit). Pour on buttered dish and
when cool enough to handle pull
until it becomes a golden color.
Cut into squares with scissors.
