Lester Granger Elected Head of Social Workers ATLANTIC CITY, N. J.— (ANP)—Lester B, Granger, 55, executive secretary of the Na * tional Urban League, recently was elected president of the Na tional Conference of Social Work. Election of this New Yorker to office marked the first time in the 78-year history of this organi zation that a Negro was ever voteu to its highest office. Granger has worked with the National Urban League since 1934, and has been executive sec retary since 1941. He is a grad uate of Dartmouth college. I His election was announced on the conventian floor in the pres ence of 6,000 delegates. Ballots had been sent out by mail for this voting. Duke & Duchess Crowning Held In^he popularity contest known as the Duke and Duchess Revue, B Miss Betty Louise Bradley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles ' Bradley, received the honor of being duchess because of the large number of tickets sold. Other contestants, in order were Mattie Sue Nevels, Shirley Cason and Marilyn Bowen. The Duke, whose identity was not revealed until the close of the program, was Lester White, son of Mrs. Athena White. Crown bearer was Jerry Peter son, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Peterson. Janice Elaine Kelley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jewell Kelley, Jr., was flower girL A program of acrobatic num bers and other features was pre sented by the class of Miss Barbara Kelley. Vocal solos were rendered by Miss Clara Belle Scott and Emma White. Mrs. Aliner Kelley was the ac companist for all musical num bers.
