THE RESTORATION OF
JERUSALEM
Scripture—Ezra 1-5-6: Nehe
miah 4-6-8-9.
Memory Selection—They that
wait upon the Lord shall renew
their strength; they shall mount
up with wings as eagles; they
shall run and not be weary; and
they shall walk, and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31.
PRESENT DAY APPLICATION
BY FREDERICK D. JORDAN
Los Angeles, Calif. *
Nothing happens about any bad
situation until somebody decides
to make the sacrifice of their own
comfort and convenience to do
something about it. The exile of1
the Jews had a profound effect
upon them, it bound the nation
closer together. Many scholars
say that the Babylonian captivity
was one of the most preductive
experiences of their history. The
writings of some of their great
prophets came out of it and their
concept of God was enlarged and
enriched by those experiences. At
its best all punishment should be
designed for constructive pur-1
poses. The remnant that returned
at the end of the exile to re
establish the nation was mall, but't
this remnant was cleansed of most!
of the evils that brought disaster
to their nation. We have the hope
Christians that out of the present
chaos may come a more hopeful
order. The returned exiles first
built an altar and laid the foun
dations of the Temple—they have
had learned the value of putting
first things first. We too need to
learn this lesson, and while seek
ing to build a strong Christian
character, to learn the necessity
of protecting ourselves from evil
influences and temptations.

IN MEMOMAM
In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not
So I would have told you. . . , And if I go and prepare a place
for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myseit v
where I am, there ye may be also. St. John 14:2, 3.
For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this
mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible
shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have
put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying
that is written. Death is swallowed up in victory I Corin
thians 15: 53, 54. '
I long for household voice gone,
For vanished smiles I long,
But God hath led my dear ones on,
And he can do no wrong.
