Mrs. Emma Davis, 104-year old ex-slave, fought a destructive fire alone at her son’s home at 2048 U Street Tuesday. Three rooms of the house owned by Gurt Davis, were gutted. Nobody was home except Mrs. Davis and her grandson, David 5. A little neighbor girl was just coming up from an er rand to the basement at the time of the fire. After pushing the chil dren to safety Mrs. Davis tempted to put out a blaze near the back door with a pan of water. Unable to subdue the flame she went to the dining room telephone, but could not reach the fire depart ment. Unable to go further she fell to the floor and had given up hope when the door opened and someone entered to pull her out ride. Mrs. Davis is staying with an ther son, James Fuller, 2244 S Itreet.
