Sentence Sermons
By Rev. Frank Clarence Lowry
For ANP
OUR WAY VS. GOD’S
1. Man has always wanted his
way—yea, from his birth in Edon,
even until this day.
2. If he wouldn’t from the be
ginning take God’s way, with no
personal expenses or rent to pay;
perhaps not much more can be
expected of him at this late day.
3. But he has had the advantage
of physical, moral and spiritual
training, so that now he should
not be showing any signs of
slipping or waning.
4. But seemingly, the higher he
climbs to intellectual heights, the
easier he seems tempted to lower
his spiritual sights.
5. Until in a day this, with
great prospects and enormous
wealth, he appears to have lost
his high rating of spiritual health.
6. The things that should en
gage his highest thought, the
average man places at a discount
that lesser achievements accord
ing pleasure and even allows his
mind to drift beyond the precincts
I of nearly every human safety
measure.
8. On the other hand, God has
always dealt fairly and squarely
with man; even in his beginning,
placed him in a luxurious garden
in which to live, and let his soul
expand.
9. But this kind treatment just
seemed too much for him to take,
and rather than settle peacefully
down, his Creater he began to
forsake.
10. Until now the Ten Com
manments he has set out over
rule—and to have his own way,
has begun to put load in his
Golden Rule.
11. Wars and Strikes are over
taking him, but he keeps on just
the same; cheating, hating and
even crusing, God’s holy and j
righteous name.
12. Now as a last resort to free
him from what seems an enevit
able onslaught, our government
has gone on a spending spree to
give and buy everything that can
be bought-but this is only a pass
ing thrill; there is but one way
out. . he MUST DO GOD’S;
WILL.___ !

Something More
About Robinson
For the time being Ray (Sugar) ;
Robinson, newly crowned mid
dleweight champion of the world,
is now worth more copy than any
other fighter, even Joe Louis. In
recent issues, Look, Quick, and
Life magazines have featured
spreads on him.
Even The New York Times
Sunday magazine featured a two
page article about Sugar Ray.
Dailies throughout the country
featured stories of his life.
In France he has been named
“fighter of the month” for his out- '
standing victory over Jake La
Motta in which he won his title.
The Champions of the Ring,
French boxing critics, made the
award.
Quick presented Robinson’s
story, and Look praised Robinson
in Look Applauds. Life had ring
side coverage of the fight through
the camera. To take the tnany
clear shots of the bout as Life did
required an elaborate photo flash
setup, the first of its kind at the
Chicago stadium.
Large reflectors were wired to
the ramp carrying the regular
ring flood lamps over the head
of the fighters. In each of these
flash guns was a strobe light (a
bulb that never foes out until
I after 100,000 shots). All the cam
eramen, located all around the
ring, had to do was snap pictures.
The-3 was no warry about what
to do with flash bulbs or any of
the other lighting problems .. .
Sandy Saddler kayoed somebody
called Diegoe Saso in Havana ..
This fellow Fitzie Pruden may
be a welterweight power to be
recognized judging by the way
he manhandled Tony Janiro.
| Johnny Britton, Kid Gavilan, and
, all the rest had better watch out
| for him . In London ( Lloyd Mar
j shall was kayoed in one round by
I Dan Cockell in London.
Lightweight champion Ike Wil
liams has been ardered to defend
his title against either Davis or
[ Freddie Dawson within a month
or give it up. There are many
who doubt that Ike can make the
weight within this short time...
What about Joey Maxim in the
175 pound division? Even though
he will not fight Archie Moore,
Maxim probably would whip him
in a title bout. He already holds
ja decision over Bob Satterfield.
I Bob Murphy should be no trouble.
Maxim should have trouble only
with Satterfield in this division.
Let him fight...

Lesson
Jesus Asserts His Authority.
Scripture—Mark 11-13.
Memory Selection — My house
shall be called a house of prayer
for all peoples. Isaiah 56:7.
Present Day Application
By Frederick D. Jordan
Los Angeles, Calif.
Reverence for God’s House is a
lesson we all need to learn. In
some churches all things con
nected with the altar—furniture,
vessels, etc., are held secred and
touched only by consecrated
hands. In other churches noth
ing seems to be held sacred, but
in our African Methodist Episco
pal Church there are a few things
held sacred. The communion rail
is not to be used for a seat at
any time, or place things upon,
or to be stepped over, to pass
tables over, etc. We also hold
secred the communion table and
do not use it for other things,
such as offering, etc. We seek
to keep our churches free from
all forms of gambling, selling
chances, and the like. But this is
not the only way in which we
tend to violate Jesus’ teaching and
make our churches a “den of
thieves.” Sometimes we serve
dinners and do not serve the
plates adequately for the money
charged. No amounlf of cheating
is permissible on the grounds of
making money for the church.
One expects to receive not only
their money’s worth, but if any
thing a generous helping when in
the church. What excuse can you
offer for selling one scoop of ice
cream for a dime, when every
commercial place sells two scoops?
Does God love this? We should
have complete respect for Jesus’
authority in all church affairs.
