Davis was in Kan sas City, the past week due to the death of an aunt, Mrs. Hattie Banks, who had been ill for sev eral years. % % * A committee from the Lincoln Council of church women met at the Y.W.C.A., Tuesday to plan for the race relations meeting to be held in March. Mrs. L. W. Horne is chairman, Mrs. W. B. Davis, Mrs. E. S. Wagner and Mrs. M. L. Shakespeare arc members. $ * * Twenty-five men met after services at Quinn chapel Sunday and formed an organization to be known as Quinn Chapel Men’s club. Harry Peterson was elected president; R. W. Ambers, vice president; Verne Wilson, secre tary and Don Griggsby, treasurer. The group will present a monthly program under the direction of the Board of Christian Educa tion. * * * A district meeting of the Ne braska conference of the AME church was called Wednesday by the Rev. John Adams, presiding elder. The meeting was held at Hiawatha, Kas. The Rev. W. E. Broaden was host pastor. Si! * * Mrs. Vera Venegar of Detroit, Mich., is visiting her mother, Mrs. Charles Scott. ’ s * * Mrs. A. R. Adams, of Nebraska City, Nebraska, was visiting in Lincoln with her son and daugh ter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Adams and her daughter, Mrs. Pauline Tapp. Ss * * Mr. Robert Walker of Oak land, Calif., is very ill according to word received by his sister, Mrs. Corene Williams. * * * CARDS OF THANKS The. family of Lawrence Dean wishes to express sincere appre ciation for the many kind ex pressions of sympathy during their bereavement. Her guests were Claudette McWilliams and Natalie and Robbie Nathan. Wilene is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Letcher. * * * Miss Virginia Davis left Satur day for Bloomfield, Missouri, where her mother is ill with a slight heart attack. Honors Dr. Bunche Puts Picture on Passes LOS ANGELES—(ANP)—The city of Los Angeles last week hon ored Dr. Ralph J. Bunche, Nobel Peace Prize winner for 1950, by placing his picture on all trans portation passes. The photograph of the famed United Nations leader was pur chased by riders of the Los An geles Transit Lines. It appeared in the left hand corner. Use of Dr. Blanche’s picture was the idea of Mrs. Ethel A. Dunn, lo cal civic and church leader. Cal vin Bailey etched the likeness to Dr. Bunche, copying it from a re cent portrait. . . . the letters start. Shape in balls around marshmallow. Roll in crumbs and brown in moderate oven (350°) 15 minutes. Or dig in egg, then crumbs, and deep fat fry. Makes 6. Small Rich Fruit Cake >4 cup butter or margarine 3 eggs 1 teaspoon soda 1 teaspoon cinnampn *4 teaspoon cloves 1 cup chopped mixed candied fruits 1 cup brown sugar cup strong coffee Vs teaspoon salt *4 cup molasses 14 teaspoon each nutmeg and allspice 1 pound raisins 1 cup chopped dates Sift flour and measure. Sift flour, salt, soda and spices to gether and mix with fruit. Cream butter or margarine with sugar. Beat eggs until light and add. Add fruit and flour mixture alternately with coffee and mo lasses. Put batter in greased waxed paper-lined loaf pan. Bake in slow oven, 275 degrees, 3 hours. Put a pan of water in the oven during the first hour of baking. Makes 4 pounds.
