Scripture—Malachi 2:10; 3:7-10; 4:5, 6. Memory Selection—Have we not all one father? Hath not one God created us? Why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, by profaning the covenant of our fathers? The recognition of the father- j hood of God is a basis for whole hearted religion. Israel had for gotten God: as a result there had j ceased to be harmony among the people, who now were dealing treacherously with one another. The New Testament says, “Now are we the sons of God.” We are essentially spiritual beings. The powers that make up your per sonality, thought, purpose, and love, are the revelation of Christ living in us. That makes the dif ference between the ideals of Malachi’s time and the Christian standards of love and brotherhood which should prevail today. How many people consciously think of this question, “Have we not all one Father?” How greatly might we change some conditions in human life if this thought were given consideration and meaning! A writer tells of a boy who in early life was regarded as men tally retarded. Unfortunate emo tional shocks in childhood had blocked the functioning of his full powers. The boy’s father was widely known as an educator. In spired by his deep love for his child, he took personal charge of the boy’s training, devoting him self to it most persistently. If the boy had been sent to a school where his special needs were neglected he would never have amounted to anything. As it was however, he became awakened to his God-given powers of intelli gence, and eventually became a useful citizen. The father’s love inspired by God, made it possible for him to take the poor stunted life and by patience develop its latent possibilities in to beauty and strength. If there is anything in the world that w'e ought to be wholehearted about it is our religion. But the sad fact is that most of us devote nearly all our time and strength to our own selfish pursuits and give religion little place in our lives. No one who is half-hearted about his religion will be able to meet the high standards of spiritual living in the New Testa ment or keep Christ’s commands. When one has vital contact with Jesus Christ, religion takes pos session of him and from the core of his being works its way out The . Reli gion must mean more to us than money or professional standing, or social prestige or any other earthly thing. Someone has said that there are two kinds of Chris tians, the I am a Christian, but and the I am a Christian, so. In any adventure we take risks and meet opposition and run against obstacles. We have to stand up against criticism and often ridi cule. We must make a decision and say, I am a Christian, and so wherever following Christ leads me, I will go whatever the cost. I n. O.
