Wednesday May 31st, Mrs.
Clayton Lewis and Mrs. James
Dean were hostesses to 75 ladies
at an open house from 2-4 o’clock,
in honor of Mrs. Harry Barnett.
Mrs. Barnett is the aunt of Mrs.
Lewis and the niece of Mr. Dean.
Refreshments, punch, cookies and
candy were served. The open
house was held at the home of
Mrs. Dean.

Little Miss Vivian Walker left
last week to spend her summer
vacation in St. Louis, Mo., with
relatives and friends.

WEDS IN CHURCH CEREMONY
The wedding of Miss Frances
Jean Burns, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Wm. Burns to Forrest Frank
King, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry
King was solemnized at the
Church of Christ Holiness June
3rd. Rev. Trago McWilliams, jr.,
performed the 3:00 o’clock cere
mony in the presents of the bride
and grooms families and a few
friends.
The bride wore a beige suit
"with brown and white accessories
and a corsage of roses.
Immediately following the cere
mony a reception was held at the
home of the bride. The couple is
planning a honeymoon trip to
Denver, Colo., they will be leav
ing June 16th.

The Urban League Vacation
Church school now in progress at
the Urban League is sponsored by
the Lincoln Council of Christian
Education under the direction of
Miss Marie Schwabauer of the
German Evangelical church. The
school started June 5th and will
continue through the 16th. The
children arrive at 9:30 and finish
a days session at 11:00 a. m. Mrs.
Irby Stephens is promoter of the
school.

SPORTS OF THE WEEK
Softball season is well under
way again and we can look for
ward to the good old games. The
Independents have a real promis
ing team this year with a few
new members. Their first game
was rained out but the next two
games were victories.
This week they have two games
scheduled at Muny field and on
Sunday night, June 11th, they will
play at Crete, Nebraska. Let’s all
go down and root for our boys.
Members of this year’s team are
Johnny Duncan, Johnnie Vaughn,
Dick Holcomb, Ray Tarpley,
Sonny Walkei-, Collins Davis,
Willie Ricks. Frank Nevels,

St. Elizabeth hospital where she
had been confined for several
weeks.

urday to spend an indefinite stay
in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Mrs.
Botts accompanied her to Council

to St. Elizabeth hospital Sunday,
j June 4th, due to a broken arm.

Mrs. June Campbell and her
granddaughters, Myrna and An
netta, spent Sunday evening in
Omaha with the children’s grand
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nathan
Winston.

Mrs. Bobbette Rife left Friday
for Chicago in company with her
cousin, Myrna Jean Davis, where
they will visit relatives. They will
be accompanied on their return
trip by their aunt, Mrs. Eltra
Crews. Mrs. Crews has been visit
ing for the past three months in
Sterling, 111.

Well, what is new in Lincoln
for this week?
* * *
Sunday, May 28th, a car from
Omaha was seen driving around
Lincoln. Maybe some of you
teens saw it, but if you didn’t, it
was a black convertible. Those
in the car were Herman Slaugh
ter, Le Roy Jameson, Raymond
Fraizier, John McClain and Eld
die Baugh. They wondered if
Lincoln was this dead all the
time?

Monday, May 29th was the last
day of school for many teens, and
we are really enjoying life now.

Tuesday, May 30th, there wei'e
quite a few teens seen in the
park attending the Urban League
annual picnic. There were sand
wiches, pop and ice cream plus
games of all kinds. Everyone
seems to have had a real swell
time. Some seen there were:
Hazel and Betty Wilson, who
were dressed like twins, Bettie
Rose Huston, Thelma Martin, Lo
retta McWilliams, Phyllis Hol
comb, Delores Bowen, Doris
Roberts, Goldie Petters, Mitz
Woods, Ralph Wilson, Maurice
Russell, George Alexander, and
many many more.

31 was Susie Mae WhiteHall.

Friday, June 2nd was gradua
tion day for many teens. Those
graduating were: Delores Bowen,
Loretta McWilliams, Lester
White, Sonny Walker, Jeannette
Venegar, Frank Parks, Birdie
Powell and Jean Burns. I think
we should be very proud of all
the teens.

Saturday night, June 3rd, there
was a dinner party given at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. A.
Fields in honor of Birdie Powell.

Wilson, Audiey Brooks, Doris
Powell, Ida Adkins, Eloise Finley,
Cecil Hatcher, Bobby Hutchen
son, Sonny W'alker, Elbert
Starks and David Wilson. We all
had a wonderful time. Mrs. Wal

Now that school is over for an
other three months and the chil
dren will be home all day, they
naturally will be bringing their
neighbors over to play. It
would be very handy to have the
cookie jar filled at all times. The
following are some tempting
recipes that you will enjoy as
well as the children.
COCONUT MACAROONS.
% cup Eagle Brand sweetened condensed
milk
3 cups (% pound) shredded coconut
1 teaspoon vanilla (optional)
Mix Eagle Brand sweetened
condensed milk and coconut. Add
vanilla, if desired. Drop from
tablespoon on greased baking
sheet, about 1 inch apart. Deco

| rate with raisins, walnuts or
cherries, if desired. Bake in mod
erate oven (350°) 2 minutes or
until brown. Remove from pan
at once. Makes about 30 maca
roons.
Sour Cream Caramel Drops.
1 cup butter or shortening
2 cups brown sugar
2 ;g;;s well beaten
1 teaspoon vanilli
Ms cup sour cream
2 teaspoons of cinnamon
1 teaspoon of nutmeg
1 teaspoon baking powder
H teaspoon baking soda
% teaspoon salt
4 cups of sifted flour
Cream shortening and sugar
until light and fluffy, fold in
beaten eggs, vanilla and sour
cream, sift spices, baking pow
der, soda, salt and flour together
and stir in. Drop from teaspoon
onto greased cookie sheet. Bake
in oven (425) until lightly
browned, about 10 minutes.
