morning for St. Louis. Mo,
where she will enter Homer
Phillips hospital for medical care
under the supervision of her sis

Miller accompanied Mrs. Miller
to Union, Nebr.

Mrs. Robert Johnson of St.
Paul, Minn., was entertained by
a get-together given by Mrs. Li
gon Arnold. Those attending
were Mr. and Mrs. John Reed
and Mr. and Mrs. Edward De
laney, Jr. The evening was spent
informally. Refreshments were
served and a nice time was had
by all.
Worshipping at Newman
Church August 14th were Miss
'Ernice Collins and Mrs. Geral
dine Criswell of North Little
Rock. Arkansas, they are the
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph
Johnson, and Mrs. J. T. Bell,
mother of Mrs. Johnson who will
make her home here in the city.

en route to Falls City, St. Joseph
and Hiawatha. They left Sun
day afternoon.

FUNDS FOR CHURCH

Mrs. Sara Polk of 544 North
22nd Street, Lincoln, Nebraska,
assistant cook at the Perry Mans
field Camps in Steamboat Springs,
Colo., has a novel way of helping
her home church through its
financial difficulties. Mrs. Polk,
who for twenty-seven years has
been a member of the Quinn
Chapel African Methodist Church
of Lincoln, has provided a beau
tiful doll named Patty Jo with
an extensive wardrobe and is
selling tickets for Patty Jo. Mrs.
Polk made all of Patty Jo’s tros
seau by hand.
It includes sixteen different
garments: an overcoat and be
ret to match, a coat suit with
beanie, two party dresses, two
afternoon dresses, skirt * and
blouse, pinafore and bonnet, two
play suits, two house dresses, a
bathrobe, pajama suit, and a
rain cape with hood.
The money collected from the
Patty Jo project Mrs. Polk will
contribute to the Communion
Board of her home church for
the purpose of buying a new
communion service and for re
modeling the church.
Mrs. Polk has been a member
of the Quinn Chapel African
Methodist Church since 1922. Her
pastor is * the Reverend J. B.
Brooks of 1225 South 9th Street.
She is the wife of Mr. Felix
Polk, Lincoln.
She has been coming to the
famous Perry Mansfield Theater
School and Camp for the past
six years and is held in high af
fection by the members of the
camp staff and group.

Again to that tiny little kitchen
with its gay red and white cur
tains to plan the day’s menu, with
pleasure.
Delicate Grape Juice.
Fill boiling hot quart jar half
full of washed stemmed blue
grapes and add V4 cup sugar to
each jar and fill with boiling
water and sear immediately.
Grapes may be crushed or
squeezed to give deeper color.
Quick Casserole.
1 cup condensed mushroom soup
«4 cup milk
1 teaspoon Worchestershire sauee
1 cup chopped cooked chicken
1 cup cooked or canned okra slices
Potato chips
Combine soup, milk and Wor
chestershire sauce. Add chicken
and okra. Pour into well greased
casserole. Bake in moderate oven.
(350° F.). Top with potato chips.
Bake 5 minutes. Serves four.
1-2-3-4 Sheet Cake.
1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
3 cups flour
4 eggs
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon soda
2 teaspoons cream of tartar (or 2 heaping
teaspoons baking powder)
Makes large sheet cake—
7xl2%x2.
Banana Frosting. *
1 medium-sized banana
1 teaspoon of lemon Juice
2 to 3 cupe confectioners’ sugar
Mash banana with a silver fork,
add lemon juice and whip with
fork. Add sifted sugar slowly,
beating until stiff enough to
spread on cake.
