Social Briefs Wedding bells rang for one of our former Lincoln girls in Cali fornia the other day when Miss Kathryn Suzanne Dean, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. William Dean, became the bride of Mr. Louie H. Sherriffe, formerly of Iowa. The wedding took place on Sunday, May 1, in Oakland, California at Faith Presbyterian church. A reception was held following the ceremony at 1521 Pacific Avenue, Alameda, Cali fornia, where the bride and groom will be at home to their friends. Mrs. Sherriffe is better known to Lincoln friends as Peaches Dean. * * * The Hub of Harmony chorus, under the direction of Frank Hale, will fill an engagement, Saturday, May 21, at Bethel A. M. E. church at Elwood, Kan sas. The singers will be guests of Rev. Melvin L. Shakespeare. * * * Mrs. H. B. Colbert is sponsor ing a pageant at the Urban League, Thursday, May 12, at 8 p. m. The pageant is entitled “Heaven Bound.” The public is invited to come and bring their friends. * * * Mr. William Dawson is re ported to have undergone sur gery at the Lincoln Veterans hos pital recently. * * * Carolyn Ruth Green, 8, was in jured quite seriously Sunday when she cut her hand on a bottle which was broken when she fell on the sidewalk. Medical attention was required. * * * Mrs. Arvella Collins arrived Wednesday morning from Cas per, Wyoming to spend some time with her family. She was accompanied by her cousin, Mr. A1 Estes, his wife and son, Roy. Earl Griffin was also a guest on the motor trip. The Esteses, after spending a day in Lincoln, motored to Omaha to see relatives and then returned to Casper. It is reported that*James Estes has been doing some real fishing in and around Lincoln during the last few weeks. * * * Mrs. Emma Anderson, Mem phis, Tenn., was admitted to St. Elizabeth hospital Thursday night. Brevy Miller—2-4051 i Spring Chicken Barbeeue M to 3%-lb. chicken 1 medium-sired onion, chopped 2 tablespoons fat 2 tablespoons brown sugar M cup lemon juice 1 cup a catsup 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce >4 tablespoon prepared mustard 1 cup water % cup chopped celery Salt Red pepper Cut chicken in serving pieces; brown in hot fat. Brown onion in fat; add remaining ingredients. Simmer 30 minutes. Pour over chicken. Bake uncovered in mod erately slow oven (325 to 350 de grees) 1 hour. Sauce may be used for meats also. Serves six. Strawberry Mousse 1 pint fresh strawberries 1 cup sugar 1 teaspoon lemon juice 2 cups whipping cream 2 egg whites Pinch of salt Wash and stem the berries. Add sugar and crush. Heat until sugar is dissolved. Add lemon juice. Chill and fold in cream which has been whipped, also beaten egg white to which the salt has been added before beating. Pour into tray, mold or individual cups. Freeze without agitating. This re cipe makes 1 quart. YELLOW TIKNIPS AND C HEESE. 3 c. diced cooked turnips 1 tsp. salt c. grated American cheese (4 tsp. pepper Heat turnips, add cheese and season. Garnish with chopped parsley. Serve immediately.
