Enthusiastic Group Observes
Eirst Anniversary. The United
Church Women’s Kensington ob
served thelj first anniversary
with a dinner at the Lincoln Ur
ban League March 25. The group
is composed of representatives
of the churches of the city and
was organized by Mrs. Brevy
Miller who is serving her second
term as president. The club has
as its purpose the realization of
the highest objectives for which
church women stand. Co-opera
tion with community projects,
contributing to community needs,
and creating closer harmony be
tween the churches are all apart
of the great work undertaken by
the year old organization. Al
ready, after having completed
articles and presented their first
bazaar, which will be an annual
affair, the ladies have completed
their first sewing assignment for
the local Red Cross under the
direction of Mrs. C. F. McAdams.
They have arranged to assist at

merous church benefit programs.

Word was received by Mrs. La
vetta McKinney of the accidental
death Thursday, March 31, of
Pete Garner. Mr. Garner, husband
of Etta Fields Garner, was killed
in Los Angeles, Calif., by a taxi
cab. Mrs. Garner, sister to Mrs.
McKinney, and her husband are
former Lincolnites.

Attorney Ray Williams, Inspec
tor in the Dept, of Labor and Mrs.
Christine Althouse of Althouse
Beauty School, both of Omaha
were in the city Monday and
Tuesday as delegates of the Re
publican Founder Day Conven
tion. They were the only two
Negroes elected on the State Cen
tral Committee. Their major con
cern was the recent compromise
of the Nebraska Republican rep
resentatives in Washington. They
told the assembly that it was sure
to have serious lasting effect on
their party.

Mo., spent the week end with her
daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Victor McWilliams.

the group enjoyed ice cream and
cake. Many other gifts were -pre
sented.
