The United Church Women’s Kensington met with Mrs. A. Hall on Friday evening. Important business on the agenda was the adopting of the By-laws. Refresh ments were served and a delight ful evening was had by all. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Walter Washing ton and Mrs/ Lloyd King are spending an extended vacation with relatives and friends in Atchison, Kansas. * * * It’s a girl for Mr. and Mrs. Jewell Kelley, Jr. The little Miss, Janice Elaine, tipped the scales at 7 lbs. 15 oz. and arrived Juy 14. Mrs. Kelley was Janice Adkins. * * * Mrs. B. Wallace Bell of Detroit, Mich., is visiting her daughter, Mrs. B. L. Wesley, 1900 T Street. * * * Harold Jones of Allentown, Pa., is visiting his mother, Mrs. Ger trude Jones and his sister, Mrs. Ruby Williamson. Mr. Jones, a former Lincolnite, spent about ten days in the city. * * * The Rev. Robert L. Moody, pas tor of Northside church of God, attended camp meeting in Topeka, Kans. * * * An interesting bit of news was received about Mrs. Josephine Watts Williams, sister of Mrs. Jennie R. Edwards. She has com pleted a nursing course at Peters burg, Va., and after practicing in Harlen hospital in New York City, has entered the field of radium technician, and is now in the New Jersey hospital in Hack ensack, New York. * * * Miss Virginia Davis who has been visiting in New Bloomfield, Fulton and Jefferson City, Mo., has returned and with her is Miss Alfrieda White of Fulton, Mo. Miss White and Miss Davis ac companied Mir. and Mrs. Fred Bradley and Mrs. Eugenia Brown to Omaha where Mr. Bradley was guest soloist at Morning Star Bap tist Church on Sunday. Miss White, Miss Davis, Mr. Milton Craft and Mr. Otis Smith were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bradley Saturday evening. * * * Mrs. Rosie Mae Zollicoffer joined Mt. Zion Baptist church Sunday morning. She comes to Lincoln from Standfield Baptist church in Vicksburg, Miss., and is making her home at 224 No. 7. * * * Mr. S. Walker of Denver, Colo., was a visitor at Mt. Zion Sunday morning. * * * Mrs. Ada Robinson was hon ored Saturday afternoon at a shower given by her co-workers at Golds department store. Mrs. Robinson left Monday for a two week vacation to Houston, Texas, where she will visit her mother. * * * The Quinn Chapel AME church Usher Board Auxiliary met Sunday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Wbods with Mrs. Margaret Williams presiding. Further plans were made for the 1949 calendar. * * * Mrs. M. K. Winston and family are spending a month on the east coast visiting relatives and friends in New York and other cities. * * * Raymond and Fletcher Gill of Kansas City are here visiting their fatflter, Mr. Walter Gill and their grandmother and great grandmother, Mrs. Daisy Hill and Mrs. Mayme Berry respectively. Raymond and Fletcher will re main here indefinitely. * * * Lavanda Hill and Raymond Botts were guests Friday in Bea trice at a party honoring Richard Becks, who will leave for the army shortly. Mr. Becks is the son of Mrs. Lela Becks of Bea trice. * * * Rev. and Mrs. T. O. McWilliams motored to Kansas City, Kansas Saturday to visit his parents who will return with him to Lincoln Sunday. A group of friends and members of Christ Temple had a surprise picnic honoring the homecoming of Rev. and Mrs. T. T. McWilliams. * * * Sgt. Joseph Casmer was seen in town this past week visiting his wife and child. Sgt. Casmer was a student at U of N. before re turning to the service last year. He is stationed at Ft. Benning, Ga. * * * Mrs. Ruby Reed returned from Minneapolis Sunday. She went there for a two-weeks visit with, her sister, Mrs. Almerita John son. * * * Mr. Jack Farr of York was a Lincoln visitor on Sunday. T A C Susie May White Hall returned from Omaha Sunday. She said she had a very fine time seeing all the people! “I hear ya.” T A C Jackie Molden is down from Omaha to spend some time with us. Glad to see her back again. T A C Frank Burden returned this week from Arizona to spend some time with his parents. If I’m lucky I’ll have him write a story about the many different places that Uncle Sam has sent him. T A C Miss Charline Colbert of St. Jo seph, Mo., is here in Lincoln to look around a bit before she en ters the University of Nebraska this fall. Incidentally boys, she is a very nice girl! T A C Since the fad this year is driving fine cars, Billy Burns is not going to be left out, although his is not a fine car. It is a big green truck. HOUSEHOLD HINTS By Mrs. Brery Miller Phone 2-4051 Now that it is canning Mason you might like a few of my personal recipes and methods. Green Beans Wash, string, break freshly gathered pods into 2 inch pieces. Boil 15 minutes. Pack into hot jars, add 1 teaspoon salt to each quart. Cover with water in which cooked. Process small young pods 35 minutes and large ones 55 minutes at 10 pounds pressure or three hours in hot water bath, give an extra turn to jar lids after you take them out of hot bath. Carrots Wash, scrape, and rinse, slice or leave whole. Boil 3 minutes. Pack into hot jars. Add 1 tea spoon salt to each quart. Cover with boiling water. Process 40 minutes at 10 lb. pressure or hours in water bath then complete seal. Beet Pickle 1 gallon small beets 2 cups sugar 1 long stick cinnamon 1 tablespoon allspice 3V4 cups vinegar 1*4 cups water Cook and skin beets, add sugar and spices to vinegar and water. Simmer 15 minutes, add beets. Boil 5 minutes longer. Pack beets in hot jars. Cover with boiling near future, so look for the an nouncement. See you next week, Dotty.
