April 30th. We are always glad to see old friends again. ■ * * * Mises Robbie and Freddie Pow ell, Joyce Williams and Jeanne Malone spent Saturday in Omaha to hear King Cole. They said he rendered some fine pieces like “What Will I do” and “Nature Boy.” * * * We are sorry to see Charles Finney and Donald Botts leave us but we hope them much luck in their new location. * * * Miss Marguerite Knowles was honored with a birthday party given by her mother and sister Mary Lou Knowles. The party was held at her home, 1902 Vine, April 19, 1947. Cool) 1 cup sugar 2 teaspoons butter 1 egg Mix above ingredients and add dates, j and the following: 2% cups flour sifted with 1 teaspoon soda and 1 teaspoon cream of tartar. 1 teasoon vanilla 1 cup chopped walnuts Bake ont hour and 20 minutes Start at 325 degrees. Increase heat after one-half hour. Serves 24. Ham and Egg Salad 1 cup diced cooked ham 1 cup diced cheese Vi cup diced onion •ii cup diced celery 3 hard-cooked eggs, diced 2 tablespoons diced green pepper cup mayonnaise or cooked salad dress ing. Endive Celery hearts Olives Mix together diced ham, cheese, onion, celery, hard cooked eggs, green pepper and mayonnaise. Wash endive and line two-quart glass* utility dish with it. Arrange salad on top of endive and garnish with celery hearts and olives. ft_ Hawaiian Casserole 3 slices bacon S green onions 1 cup canned mushrooms 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce 1" teaspoon salt 4 cups cooked macaroni 1 cup canned tuna fish 1 can mushroom soup Brown bacon in bottom of two quart heat-resistant glass sauce pan. Drain slices of bacon on paper and reserve to put on top of casserole. The evening was spent informanlly. * * * Billy Burns won the mile run in the Lincoln high school relays. Good work, Billy. * * * The spring program at Whit tier Jr. High was well worth while. one-half-inch long and brown slightly in bacon fat. Add mush rooms, Worcestershire sauce and salt. Cook together for about five minutes. Arrange macaroni, tuna fish and mushroom mixture in layers in casserole. Pour mushroom soup over mixture. Cover and bake in moderate, 350 degree oven for about 30 minutes. Arrange three crisp bacon slices on top a few minutes before removing from oven. An old glove finger slipped over the end of a curta'in rod when hanging freshly ironed curtains will prevent snagging. To keep cheese moist, spread the cut side with a very thin coating of butter or margarine. Don’t ever put meat into the refrigerator uncovered. It will dry out and become tasteless, of no use to you. Keep it in covered dish and use it in hash or stew or a casserole dish for another meal. Don’t throw away your stale bread.
