By Rev. R. E. Handy.
Subject: "A Prophet Among the
Exiles.”
Scripture Text: Ezek. 1:1-3;
3:11, 17-21; 4:1-3.
Goldeq Text: “Son of man, I
have thee a watchman unto the
house of Israel.” Ezek. 3:17.
—Application of the Lesson—
God in His word his stated
that all sin shall be punished. In
today’s lesson, we find Israel in
the captivity of Babylon. God
had allowed that because of their
falling away from true worship.
Among the captives was one
Ezekiel, whom God was to use as
a symbol' of the national sin that
caused them to become exiles.
They needed to know that they
were there justly. And they
needed to know that if they would
repent and exercise faith, they
would be restored a> a nation,
and that their enemies would be
punished. The word of the Lord
came cxpi’essly to Ezekiel, but
before he could give that message
he had to be purified and be given
the message of God, by God. This
is true of every teacher and
pxeacher. Too many of us are
“running without tidings” given
of God. Too many have not been
touched by a “live coal” from the
altar. The result is that the Gospel
message falling from some lips,
lacks force and power.
'Ezekiel was given the “roll’’
(the Word of God) and told to
“eat it up” that is, commit it to
memory. It woud be sweet in his
mouth, (i.e. God’s pi’omises of
future happiness would be pleas
ant listening) but his belly would
“be bitter,” (i.e. he would like
to escape his just punishment).
No teacher or preacher is qual
ified to lead sinners to Christ
who does not constantly “eat” the
word of God. I have heard men
say, “Get into the pulpit, open
your %iouth and God will fill
it.” But I read in Timothy “Study
to show thyself approved ... a
workman that need not be
ashamed, rightly dividing the
word of Truth.” And again, “Pray
always, without ceasing, and
watch . . .”
We, too, are exiles, far from our
heavenly home. Go into thy secret
closet and pray for a “live coal.”
God will give you a message for
a dying world and souls will be
given you for your hire.

QUINN CHAPEL
Easter Sunday was a great
j day at Quinn Chapel. The break
! fast sponsored by the Wee
Moderns was well attended and
quite successful. At 10:00 a. m.
the Junior Department of the
Sunday School rendered a very
excellent program of Easter
songs and recitations under the
direction of Miss Frances Lewis,
Assistant Sup’t. Rev. R. E.
Handy conducted a brief period
on “The Meaning of Easter.” At
the 11:00 services, fine music
was the order of the day. Ten
infants and children received the
sacrament of Baptism. The
Choir, under the direction of
Charles Goolsby today, did a
fine job on the anthems “All
i Hail” (Gates) and “Nature’s
Anthem of Praise” (Sullivan).
Mrs. Mary Sampson’s contralto
voice accompanied by Mrs. Clyde
Malone ^thralled the congrega
tion in her rendition of “Into the
Woods” (Nevin) as did Mrs. Od
dessa Johnson, Mrs. Sampson and
Mr. Goolsby in the trio “The
Fruits and Flowers” (Gates). Miss
Barbra Kelley, accompanied by
her mother, played beautifully on
her violin the Bach-Gounod
Meditation on Prelude No. 1. The
scenery decorating the choir was
painted by Mr. Goolsby.
