Girl of the Month Jeanette Vinegar. My life story. My name is Jeanette Vinegar. I am 16 years old and a sophomore at Lincoln High. My home is in Detroit, Michigan. I am now stay ing at 1928 U Street with my grandmother, Mrs. Mary Scott. I came to Lincoln in September of 1946 to attend school. I found Lin coln to be a beautiful, clean, quiet city and its people very firendly. I first attended Whittier Jr. High. I graduated in June and now I go to Lincoln High. The schools in Detroit are some what like the schools here, only in junior high we never go on civic league trips which I enjoyed going on while at Whittier. I went to several different schools in Detroit but the school I like best and last attended was Carver Junior high which is named after our great Negro scientist, Dr. George Washington Carver. Colored children mostly attended and we had colored teachers. It is a large school with a lafe cafeteria, auditorium and gym. The gym is the place I was most interested in for we girls had a fine basketball team and would invite teams from other schools out to play us and in re turn they would invite us ,to play them. (I really miss the , team.) They also have a school paper called “The Carver Flash” which I named and was editor. Being a Girl Scout, our troop went on many interesting tours and learned many things about Detroit I did not know, nor will I forget. It is nice to be in a quiet city after living in a large noisy one all of your life. I intend to finish here, go to college and major in art. I am now taking an art course on Saturdays at the Uni f versity of Nebraska. j SOCIAL BRIEFS | By Basalia Bell The Spirit of Thanksgivi Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rife had as their guests Mr. and Mrs. Brooks and son, Lewis, and Mr. and Mrs. Moffet and son, Exter.
