Y.—Twenty-five years of publishing OPPOR TUNITY, official organ of the National Urban League, 1133 Broadway will be marked with a special commemorative issue to appear on newsstands through out the country on September 29. Leading features in the Twen ty-fifth Anniversary Issue of the Magazine include current editor ials by Charles S. Johnson and Elmer A. Carter, first and second Editors, respectively, of the Jour nal of interracial opinion. Dr. Johnston, who held his po sition with the Magazine from 1923 to 1928, is now President of Fisk University, Nashville, Tenn. Mr. Carter served as Editor of OPPORTUNITY from 1928 to 1942. He is a member of the New York State Commission Against Discrimination. With attractive page designs throughout, OPPORTUNITY pre sents a brief history of its own birth under the title “How It Began.” Not only does this his torical feature include fragments from the first editorials written by Dr. Johnson and Eugene Kinckle Jones, General Secretary of the National Urban League, but the cover of Volume I, Num ber I, is reproduced. Mrs. Viney Wilkinson gave a farewell party in honor of her sister, Mrs. Kenneth Hampton of Denver. It was reported a great success. Mrs. Rudolph Ealy and sons, Robert and Billy, have returned to Alliance after a short visit of friends and relatives in Brook field, Missouri. Favors delivered a very interesting sermon, “Stewardship of the Gospel.” Persons united with the church at the morning service were: Mrs. J. M. Griggsby from Huston, Texas; and Mr. Otis Brown of Memphis, Tennessee. - | I URBAN LEAGUE NEWS Merry Cookers’ Club mem bership campaign to begin Friday, Sept. 26. .— Washington Coin Drive ENDORSED BY 1st NATIONAL The Booker T. Washington commemorative half dollars, that are to be sold at a premium for the purpose of furthering the pro gram of the Booker T. Washing ton Birthplace Memorial, Inc., of Rocky Mount, Virginia, are now on sale at the First National Bank, Lincoln. We are informed coins minted at Philadelphia and San Francisco will be sold for $1.00 and those minted at Denver will be sold for $1.50. The success of this campaign will produce a fitting memorial to Booker T. Washington in that is contemplates the establishment of a training school for Negro youth at his birthplace in Frank lin County, Va., I hope the people of Lincoln will support this cam paign enthusiastically. A total of 1,700,000 of the Book er T. Washington half-dollars were minted, 107,000 at the Den ver mint, which sell for $1.50, and 665,500 at the Philadelphia and San Francisco mints which retail for $1.00. “Let us commemorate the life and perpetuate the ideals and teachings of Booker T. Washing ton, a great American—” -o Mr. George Randol was guest soloist at Quinn Chapel A. M. E.
