Miss Smith who had been visiting in the city for the past week left for her home by plane Sunday morning; Mr. Mc * Fields spent the past three weeks as guest of the McFields left Mon day and Mr. Smith returned to his home on Saturday. Mrs. M. B. Denton, mother of Mrs. Mc Fields and Mrs. Quinn, her grand mother were also guests at the breakfast. • • • # Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Thomas of Omaha and both couples former residents of the city were visiting relatives and friends Sunday. He was in attendance at church Sunday morning. • * ® • Miss Katherine Thompson, club director at the Lincoln Urban League left Monday for a two week vacation. She will visit relatives and friends in Norborne and Kansas City, Missouri. • • • • Phyllis Bradford, who was featured in the Girl Scout section of the Journal recently, has re ^ ceived many comments for her outstanding work in choral speak ing during the Girl Scout Camp at Antelope Park. Phyllis did the solo part in Hiawatha. * • • • Rev. O. J. Burkhardt of Omaha was in attendance at Christ Temple Sunday Morning. A drugstore in Abraham Lin coln’s home town of Springfield, Illinois, paid a fine Wednesday after a county court found it guil ty of violating the civil rights sta tute by refusing to serve Rachel Shands of Chicago because of her race. Hightower, Jewell Kelley, Ed Todd and John Reed were the ^ Lincolnites attending the Masonic Grand Lodge held in Omaha, July 16 and 17. • • • • The Mary Bethune Literary and Art Club held its regular meet ing Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Clayton P. Lewis. After a brief business session dis cussion of current events .local, national and international fol lowed. The 70 employes involved are located in the Veterans building • t 12th and O Streets. • • • • Charming Guests Mr. and Mrs. Ervine Osborne, 1432 Park Avenue, Kansas City, Mo., were recipients of many so cial courtesies during their brief itay as guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Beach. They were among those witnessing the dedication of the Pinewood Bowl on Sunday, July 13. They were delighted with their trip to the State Capitol and the view of the city from its tow er . Mrs. Clyde Coulter served refreshments after a theater par ty. Mrs. Anita Smith was among those who entertained for the visi tors. Mrs. Osborne is well known as a cateress in Kansas City and her husband is meat inspector /or the Swift Packing Co. They returned to their home Tuesday, July 15. -o Circle Meets The Sewing Circle of the Church of God in Christ met at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Hum bert with a number of out-of-town visitors present. They were: Mrs. Ashley of Louisiana, Mrs. Lane, St. Louis, Missouri, Mrs. Elliott, Los Angeles, and Miss Mary Aber nathy, Kansas City, Kansas. Re freshments were served by the hostess. They stop ped in Wyoming to hear “Wings Over Jordan.” Mrs. Rudolph Ealy and Mrs. Julia Lear recently returned from a short trip to Sheridan. Wyoming They also attended the “Wings Over Jordan” program. Mr. and Mrs. M. C .Woodlee, Sr., entertained a few guests in their home with a fried chicken supper. James Motley recently return ed from Cheyenne, Wyo, where he was engaged in a three round boxing match. He won the bout by a technical knock-out. Alli ance fans attending the fight were Mr. Viney Jackson and Ben Nel son. Mr. Joseph Harris is visiting at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Harris, Sr. Joseph is a sophomore in a California medi cal college. Mrs. Viney Wilkinson gave a party at the Jackson residence in honor of Joseph Harris.
