GOOLSBY ATTENDS COMMENCEMENT Dr. and Mrs. L. S. Goolsby 1029 Park Ave. returned Monday after attending commencement exer cises at Bishop Williams School of Religion, May 29, where he reported a most excellent gradua tion program. Rev. Albert Newton, Beatrice, Nebraska was among the gradu ates. Attorneys, Mr. and Mrs Page Alexander of Philadelphia Pa. were both present and Attorney Alexander delivered the address. They represented the Church in the recent court trial. An honorable degree was con fered upon the Mayor of Hutch inson, Kansas, The Mayor and his wife came by plane in order to at tend the meeting. -o Men's Club in Gala Spring Celebration The Men’s Club gave a gala spring celebration at the Urban League building, Wednesday eve ning, 28 May, 1947. It was announced today by Rev. L. S. Goolsby, Presiding Elder. The meeting will be held at Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church, 9th and “C” Streets. Rev. R. E. Har dy will be host pastor. ..- ■ ■ ■ —. ■■ Charles Washington Former Staff Member of The Voice Arrested on Forgery Charge. Charles Washington, 23, Omaha, who has made his home in Lin coln at 916 P Street since Febru ary, and until recently employed by The Voice in the circulation and advertising departments was arrested Wednesday by the Lin coln Police Department on charg es of forgery. Captain Masters quoted Wash ington in admission of the forg ery of a half-dozen checks total ing $178, and issued to Lincoln stores since May 28. Washington waived prelemin ary hearing and was bound over to the District Court under $1,000 bond. -o John H. Smith, 71, Retired Cook, Dies John H. Smith, 71, 1205 No. 22nd, died Monday, May 26, at his home. He had been a cook on the Burlington railroad until his retirement in 1945. He had lived 10 years in Chicago. He is survived by his wife, Elnora, five sons, Thomas, Kan sas City, Mo., John, Booker, Or ville, and Lester; daughter, Mrs. Cozy May Heitts; sister, Mrs. An na Ray, Pasadena, California; 12 grandchildren.
