Sunday School Lesson
By Rev. R. E. Handy
Subject—“The Struggle Against
Baalism”
Scripture—I Kings: 18
Memory Verse—“Near me, O
Lord, hear me, that this people
may know that Thou art the
Lord God, and that Thou hast
turned their heart back again.”
1st Kings 18:37
—The Lesson in Its Present Day
Setting—
One of the objections we were
supposed to be fighting for in the
late war was freedom of worship.
There can be no freedom of wor
ship unless state and church are
seperate.
One of the doctrines of Baal
ism Was a compulsion of a single
religion under the rule and guid
ance of the state.
The Nazis ruled in religion by
advancing the state as supreme.
The Soviet hold class as the thing
to worship. The Creeds of these
countries are that this life and
its immediate ends are the only
values that count. They hold that
the worship of God is only an
opiate for weak minded people.
This doctrine is one of the ten
ants of Baalism.
But in his day Elijah stood on
Mt. Carmel and cried, “Choose
this day whom you shall serve.
If the Lord be God, worship Him
and if Baal be God, serve him.”
How clearly the call rings out
to Christianity today. So many
false gods, so many seducing
creeds in a corrupt generation
and a wicked nation.
The only way the true church
can be seen is for Christians to
pray and pray, and pray for a
great revival and for the spiriual
fire to fall once more.
