MOTHEB !
Thou shalt have grace where glory is forgot;
The love all luminous in the world's last night.
Thy children’s arms shall be thy necklace bright.
And all love’s roses clamber to thy cot.
And if a storm one steadfast star should blot
From thy pure heaven. God’s angels shall re-light
-
The lamps for thee, and to make the darkness white;
The lilies of His love shall be thy lot!
He shall give all His angels charge of thee;
Thy coming and thy going shall be known.
Their steps shall shine before thee radiant
Lest thou shouldst dash thy foot against a stone
The cross still stands. Who shall that love condemn
Whose tender lips kissed Christ at Bethlehem?
URBAN LEAGUE MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN
“The Lincoln Urban League's Annual membership campaign is
near an end,” Clyde W. Malone. Executive Secretary reported today.
Membership is still open to all, and the readers of “The Voice”
are lyged to take advantage of this privilege.
Mrs. Helen Foe, is chairman of the campaign and reports the
results thus far as gratifying.
The volunteers who worked on the membership drive deserve
an orchid for their efforts.
The Urban League's program is many sided, serv ing all ages.
It not only emphasises character building clubs, but activities cen
tered around play ground and summer camping periods.
The chief aims are: The integration of Negroes in the economic,
social and community life of America; the development of health
patterns in inter-group relations; employment opportunities; con
tacting employer and employees; vocational guidance with an aim
to help the evaluating abilities and to provide incentives for pre
paration.
These are only a few of the reasons why civic minded citizens
of both races should take advantages of this opportunity to become
* a part of a project which is open to all; including the use of the
building and facilities.

R ROLLO WILSON—
OLYMPIC HOPES
Several prospects for the U. S.
Olympic team is 2948 were on
display during the Penn Relays
A sure member is Reggie Pear
man, NYU half-miler. The others
were Bill Mathis, of the Illini,
Lincoln’s Fred Jones and How
ard's Charlie Jupiter in the
springs: Set on Hall Prep's Charlie
Slade and Morgan’s Bob Tyler in
the quarter mile.
Slade, the kid from Jersey, was
the best schoolboy on view dur
ing the two days. He did a 49.2
quarter and that, me hearties, is
moving fast. Jones, of the Lion
pack, surprised by finishing third
in the 100. Tyler, of Morgan, has
had a lot of “good press" but the
lack of class of his teammates
handicapped him. If his school
has the judgment to send him to
the NCAA and to the Nationals
he will have the opportunities to
give full vent to his ability.

JACK SAUNDERS—
Walcott Taking it in Stride
“Jersey Joe” Walcott is taking
in stride the disappointment
which fell his lot when he learned
he wouldn't get the long-awaited
chance to meet Champion Joe
Louis for the heavyweight title
in June. Walcott was seconding
one of his stablemates, Tommy
Merrill, during a fight in Cam
den’s Convention Hall when the
tidings reached him.
“Oh, Well,” he said in answer
to a question as to how he felt
“maybe Til get a chance some
day.” Joe Webster, Walcotts
manager, and his associate, Felix
Bochicchio, were shocked by the
news. “We know our Joe is the
number one heavyweight con
tender,” said Webster, “and I can
not understand why Louis refuses
to fight him.”—If it’s money the
champ is thinking about,” Bochic
chio said, “We are willing to
guarantee him $200,000 to fight
our Joe—and $200,000 isn’t hay.
