American life is geared to a
fast pace, and offers the successful
little time for retrospective leisure
Too often the man who reaches
the top finds that he has to work
just as hard to stay there as he
did to get there. He fights and
struggles and toils, always looking
forward to some time when he
can retire and commune with
himself; and presently, before his
chance comes he dies, and his life
has been only half lived.
For the things that give life a
rich, meaty flavor are not always
the things that come from the re
alization of soaring ambition.
They are the little things. The
significance and beauty of life
are seldom realized in the heat of
the arena. They come home to
one in times of inactivity, when
one can drowse, mediate and ex
amine his place in the world. An
afternoon on a sunlit woodland
river can do more to convince a
man that living is worth while
than a decade of struggling in
office or forum.
What is a man’s soul, anyway?
Is it that part of him that makes
speeches, devises stratagems and
fences with his fellows? Not at
all. It is a shy, inner being that
cannot come out and gain expres
sion in the heat of action. It needs
quiet and repose. Minor joys—
warm sunlight, country winds in
summertime, starlit evenings by
quiet waters, desultory converse
with friends around a fireside—
these are the things that nurture
it.

Well what is your story this
week? Mine isn’t much.
The girls of Lincoln High saw
a fine assembly Wednesday
morning given by the Home Ec.
classes, the garments were made
by the students of the school.
Miss Lois Hatcher came out in a
stylish black and white pin-stripe
suit with black accessories.
Miss Wilma Stornes, a former
Lincolnite, was in our fair city
to bid us farewell as she is going
to move to Minneapolis.
The girl reserves will hold their
installation tea at the Y.W.C.A.
Loretta McWilliams is president
of the organization.

ris, Nellie Wilson, Johnny Duncan
Victor McWilliams and Verne
Wilson.
