Veterans Administration Release At the close of February three major programs of the Veterans Administration in Nebraska showed a decline instead of a gain for the first time in more than a year. Ashley Westmoreland, the VA’s Nebraska manager, said declines all of them small—were noted in the number of disability pension and compensation cases, the number oi World War II veterans training under the GI bill, and the number of disabled veterans training under Public Law 16, the vocational act. During February the number of Nebraska veterans, including World War I and II, receiving disability pensions and compen sation dropped to 15,005, a de crease of 293 from the previous month. Principal cause of the drop, Westmoreland said, is due to a new method of processing claims for disability resulting from ma laria. Awards for malaria dis ability are now limited to one year periods. Additional awards beyond a year will be allowed only in cases where the claimant of recurrences or relapse. Ex piration of malaria awards ac counted for the overall decline I in the number of disability j awards. Meanwhile, the number of World War II veterans enrolled in schools and in on-the-job training courses under the GI Bill dropped from 22,438 to 22, 420. The number of disabled World War II veterans taking training under the Public Law 16 declined from 1,252 to 1,248. Westmoreland said both of these declines, however, are too small to be considered indicative of a trend. — Join the Urban League — KITRELL FILES FOR CITY COUNCIL Virgil H.
