Word was received of the
death of Mrs. Ella Gattlin, for
mer Lincoln resident, in Omaha,
Nebraska, Monday . Among the
survivors is a sister, Mrs. Leona
Crisman.
We also have information that
a baby daughter, Linda Bernice,
was born March 15. to Mr. and
Mrs. Odell Lewis, formerly of
this city. The Lewis’s are now
making their home in Seattle,
Washington, 516, 27th Avenue
South.

Mr. Samuel Douglas, nephew
of Mrs. Harriett Williams is home
from the Lincoln Veterans Hospi
tal, following a tonsilectomy.

Mrs. Wm. B. Davis was called
to Manhatten, Kansas Monday
because of the illness of a rela
tive. She returned Wednesday.

Mr Willie Page and Mr. J. B.
Bonds are to be new employees
at the Lincoln Post Office it was
reported this week. Mr. Page
formerly worked at Station B on
South 17th Street. Both are
^ex-service men.

Mrs. Lulu Williams and her
daughter, Mrs. Joe Green left
Friday night for Alliance, Ne
braska, where they will complete
moving plans for Mrs. Williams.
She will make her home in Lin
coln with her daughter.

Mrs. Quinn, mother of Mr.
Denton and Mr. J. T. Wright are
reported indisposed. Rev. M. L.
•Shakespeare is still confined to
his home.

Mrs. Edward G. Craft who was
^taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital
on Wednesday is reported very
much improved.

Miss Melsena Goolsby was ab
sent from classes last week due
to an attack of flu.

Mr. and Mrs. Herman Tapp and
family will soon be newcomers
to the city. The Tapps who are
now living in Nebraska City are
daughter and son-in-law of Mr.
and Mrs. Alonzo Adams.

Newman Church is observing
Anniversary services this week.
Several visiting ministers are
scheduled as guest speakers dur
ing the services. Rev. G. W.
Happer is pastor of the church.

Mrs. Dosha Hamilton and Mrs.
Virginia Hassel were Co-hostesses
to the Le Femme Club at its regu
lar meeting. A delicious lunch
was served. Mrs. Claudette Col
lier is president of the club.
Other officers present were Mrs.
Margie Winston, treasurer; Mrs.
Maxine Walker, secretary and
Mrs. Jaunita Cazon, club reporter.

Misses Elizabeth and Helen Mc
Williams were hostesses Wednes
day to the Tres Jolie Club. A
lovely lUnch was served and an
enjoyable evening followed. A
new member, Mrs. Hazel Par
nell was accepted and the meet
ing adjourned to meet with Mrs.
Parnell and Mrs. Queenie Jack
son on the next regular meeting
date. Elizabeth McWilliams is
club president; Betty Lintz,
secretary; and Muriel Harris,
club reporter.

Mt. Zion Baptist Church will
observe its Annual Women’s Day
program Sunday afternoon at
3:00 o’clock at the church. Sev
eral guest speakeis will be pre
sent. Mrs. Wm. B. Davis is in
charge of the program.

Mrs. L. S. Goolsby made a busi
ness trip to Kansas City, Kansas,
Sunday night.

S. C. STUDENT WINS
ART PRIZE
Columbia, S.C. (ANP)—Frank
Miller, student at Booker T.
Washington high school here, was
one of three students to win
prizes among 400 contestants in
a state-wide art contest which
closed Friday.
Miller was awarded second
place for his pen and ink draw
ing, entitled, “House at Pawleys
Island.’’ First prize went to Gene
Brantley of the Columbia high
school and third place to Robert
Cunningham of Dreher high
school here. Both are white.
Prizes were awarded by the
South Carolina Federation of
Women’s clubs (white), which
announced the winning works
would be entered into the reg
ional contest, part of the elemi
nation process in the annual art
contest of the National Scholas
tic Art contest.
