FAITH AND SIGHT
by Victor G. Mills
Today the mountain hides its face;
The clouds and mists have left no trace
Of that strong height to which each day
I lift my eyes the while I pray.
But yesterday the air was clear—
So clear that distant things seemed near.
The mountain stood in majesty,
Distinct against the Western sky.
■
So God at times is hid from sight
By mists of doubt or failing sight;
And then again He seems as real
As human friends whose touch I feel.
* 1
Lord, give me faith to keep always
The certainties of clearer days,
And when Thy face I cannot see
To know that Thou art still with me.
1946 Happy New Year 1947
/
And so we face a new year, a
new world, a new life. And so
our ship of hope, making its
maiden voyage, sails away into
the future. Shall we, like Paul,
forget the past, and reach forth
unto those things which are be
fore? Shall we hold steadfastly
in our hearts little stowaways of
“sterling silvers” of the past
which will keep in our memories
whatever happy hours we have
shared together?
It is my earnest hope that as
we enter into the new year we
will carry with us many of those
“sterling silvers” which have
made for happiness and an un
dying faith in the eternal truths.
And so at this yuletide I greet
you with a sincere good wish for
a pleasant voyage into a life of
peace and beauty, inspired by
love. And with that wish I
launch the ship of hope at this
port of ’47.
Sincerely,
Lynnwood Parker
