While Cake

5 eggs
2 cups sugar
% cup butter
Vz cup cold water
3Vfe cups cake flour
. 4 level teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
% teaspoon almond extract
seven minute icing
Cream butter, salt, and sugar
together until light, and fluffy
and add flavoring. Sift flour to
gether about 3 times and add to
mixture alternately with lVa cups
of water after this has been beat
en until light fold in the whites
of 5 eggs that have been stiffly
beaten, pour in well greased cake
pan and bake at 350 degrees until
done.
* Sleamed Christmas Pudding
Grate coarsely 1 cup of carrots
1 cup of potatoes and add
1 cup of brown and white sugar
add Vz cup rendered chicken fat.

add 1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cinnaman
1 teaspoon salt
Va teaspoon allspice
Mix in one cup flour and one
cup cornmeal, then add one cup
mincemeat. Steam 3 hours in
greased baking powder cans, half
filled (or of course in a steaming
mold if you have one). Reheat at
time of serving. Serve with any
kind of sauce.
Holiday Salad
2 cups cranberries .
1 whole orange sliced
1 cup water, 2|3 cup sugar
1 tablespoon plain gelatin
2 tablespoons cold water
Vz cup seedless grapes
1 cup diced crisp celery
V4 cups coarsely chopped nuts
Cook oranges skin and all for
about 10 minutes in water and
sugar, then all cranberries and
cook until skins pop open. Rub
through a sieve. Soften gelatine
in cold water. Then dissolve in
hot cranberry mixture. Chill,
when it begins to thicken pour a
thin layer in ring mold or loaf
pan, put in grapes and another
layer of chilled gelatine. Chill.
Then mix celery, nuts, and re
maining gelatine and pour on as
the top layer.
