Social Hints Mr. Alfred E. Simms left re cently to attend the World Series games to be played in Boston. He will visit New York City, Cleve land and Chicago before return ing. Mr. Simms will be absent from the city approximately fif tit’ll days. Mrs. Roma Henderson will edit a column for the special interest of railroad personnel. Mr. Charles Boyd, who has for the last several months shown little if any improvement, re mains in a serious condition. Rev. A. Newton of Beatrice and Rev. H. C. Commins cnroute to Atchison, Kansas from Kansas City, Kansas stopped over in Lincoln, Thursday. They are to attend the Nebraska Annual Con ference at Atchison, Kansas. Both Rev. Newton and Rev. Commins are enrolled at “Bishop Williams School of Religion” in Kansas City, Kansas. Mrs. Marian Starks of Chicago is the house guests of Mrs. Stella Hammond. Mrs. Lenora Roberts of Kan sas City, Mo., is the house guest of Mrs. Ed Hammond. Mrs. Rob erts expects to remain indefinite ly. Mrs. Verneda Bellow, after be ing confined to St. Elizabeth Hos pital with an infected finger, is now home. Mrs. Maggie Williamson of Kansas City, Kansas spent the week end as the house guest of Mrs. Ollie Colley. Mrs. William son, a former resident of Lincoln, will stop in Omaha before re turning to Kansas City. Mr, William Patrick of Grand Island was a Lincoln visitor Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. Bradford Conway motored to Cheyenne, Wyo., where they were the guest of Mrs. Conway’s aunt, Mrs. Carrie Smith. They spent sometime in Denver as the guest of Mrs. Ruby Cambell Bird, a former Lincoln ite. Mrs. Smith accompanied the couple on their return and has undergone an operation at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She is im proving nicely. Mr. Rupert E. Davis who has been spending several weeks in Texas due to illness, writes that he is much improved. Rev. O. J. Burkhardt of Omaha was a recent visitor in the city. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Dunn spent several days recently va cationing with relatives and friends in Hutchinson, Kansas and Kansas City, Mo. Mrs. James King has just re turned from an extended visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Conrad of Broken Bow, Nebraska. Mr .and Mrs. John Thomas and daughter, Carolyn, are the house guests of Mrs. Malessa Bedell. Mrs. Pauline Ivory, Mrs. Brevy Lilly and Mr. Alonzo Carter were among the Postal Employees who saw the flying Post Office. Dono van Gettis accompanied Mrs. Lilly. Mrs. H. C. King and daughter Patricia and son Frank spent several days in Denver recently. Mr. Ardell Knowles is still a patient at the Veteran Hospital here. Mr. Charles Thompson will celebrate his 76th birthday today. His daughter, Miss Katherine Thompson will bake a cake in honor of the occasion. Mr. Clayton Lewis, chairman of the Recreation committe, re ported a successful summer play ground program with a total at tendance of over 2,000. He re ported the employment of Mr. Henry McWilliams as boys’ work er for the fall and winter. Rev. M. L. Shakespeare after attending the Annual Conference at Atchison, Kansas is spending the week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Shakespeare in Parsons, Kansas. All over the country colleges and univer sities are crowded to capacity and the University of Nebraska is no exception. This is evidence of the fact that young America is truly taking advantage of its educational opportunities in or der that it can cope with this modern atomic world. Young Negro America with its double problem to cope with has to be doubly prepared. Frequently the actual number of Negro students enrolled in the university and colleges at Lin coln are never generally known. But this year we are going to start you out right with the com plete list of students (at least I tried to make it complete.)
