' Mrs. Lamont Stephens was a Grand Island passenger last Saturday morn ing, returning in the evening. M. C. Mulick returned home Sat urday noon from Omaha where he had been several days visiting. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Schwaner of Burwell visited here with his brother, Lou, and family the first of the week ?vlrs. A. O. Bunn, of Amherst. Neb., arrived Monday evening to at tend the funeral of her father, Henry Lewis. Cecil John and Emery Owens, both of Comstock, visited with friends in our city last Thursday, returning in the evening. C. W. Trumble, Ernest H. A. de la Motte, O. J. Walters and F. Ander son, all of Hazard, are Loup City visitors today. The Germania Verein held a dance in society hall Tuesday evening, whic.h was an enjoyable affair and was well attended. Miss Alice Tangerman, of Rock ville, came up Saturday and spent Sunday at the Dieterich home, re turning home Monday. A. E. and W. T. Chase returned last Saturday noon from Omaha and Lincoln where they had been on busi ness and pleasure combined. Mrs. C. Clark, who has been here visiting with friends, and at Arcadia, the past week, returned to her home at Aurora last Saturday morning. Miss Bertha Rettenmayer was a westbound passenger for Arcadia Thursday evening to visit a few days at the Charley Rettenmayer home. __ Chris Oltjenbruns returned home Monday evening from Omaha and Lincoln where he had been with a car of stock, and visiting with his father. Mrs. Fawthrop, of Hastings, came up Tuesday evening to visit a few days with her daughter. Miss Grace Fawthrop, who is reported on the sick list. Mrs. E. B. Corning returned home last Friday evening from Ashton where she had been visiting with her daughter, Mrs. Albert Anderstrom, and family. Miss Klea McNulty, who has been spending the week here visiting with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Mc Nulty, returned to her school work at Hazard Saturday morning. Miss Leota Owens and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wilson, all of Arcadia, re turned to their homes at Comstock last Thursday evening after spend ing the day visiting in our city with friends. Earl W. Wilson of Comstock, and Miss Nannie L. Owens, of Sargent, were married by County Judge Smith on Thursday, March 2. The ceremony was witnessed by Miss Cecil M. John of Comstock and William E. I am well equipped to do your work and will appreciate the business.—James Kay. 9-4 County Judge Smith officiated at the wedding, on Ash Wednesday, March 8, which united the lives of Floyd A. Van Cleve of Comstock and Miss Della A. Marsh of Sargent. The couple was accompanied by Frank and Miss Mere Van Cleve, brother and sister of the bride. Friends of W. S. Waite are urging him to file for the nomination for Sec retary of State. Mr. Waite has not yet made his decision in the matter, but should he decide to make the race, his extensive acquaintances through out the state will insure his making a hard fight for the nomination. William Dolling has leased the Gas teyer building and will move his bak ery and restaurant into the new quar ters on April. 1. Mr. Dolling has pur chased a new patented oven and will equip the bakery with all up-to-date and modern machinery. When located in his new quarters Mr. Dolling will be more able to handle his increas ing business and it will also be much more convenient for the trade. Victor Viener, proprietor of the Hub Clothing Store, returned from Sioux City, Iowa. Monday. Mr. Viener leased a building while in Sioux City and will open an exclusive clothing and men’s furnishings store there on April 1. His closing out sale will con tinue at Loup City for three weeks more. It is with regret that we see the Viener family leave Loup City, and the well wishes of the community will follow them to their new home. " * The eleven year old daughter of Rev, and Mrs. C. G. F. Johnson, who , live a few miles west of town, died Wednesday evening, diptheria being the cause of her death. The little girl was taken ill last Friday with what was supposed to be tonsilitis, and two days before her death it developed into diptheria. The re l mains were laid to rest Thursday morning. The Johnson home is under quarantine and all precautions have been taken to prevent the spread of 1 the disease. Miss Mary Reiman returned home Monday evening from Boelus where she had been visiting with her neice, Mrs. Anna Kosch. Mrs. John Jezewski returned home from Ashton Monday. evening where she had been visiting with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Wardyn. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sehwaner came down from Burwell Monday to visit several days with Mr. Schwaner's brother. Lou Sehwaner, and family. Mrs. M. A. Alleman, who has been here visiting with her son. Clark Al lenian, and family, left for her home at Frankfort, Kansas, on Tuesday. Mrs. S. A. Allen and two chil dren, left last Saturday morning for Blair, Neb., to spend a week or so visiting with her mother, Mrs. Flora DeCamp. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Trefney, who have been here visiting with W. P. Taylor and wife for *some time, re turned to their home at Alliance on Tuesday morning. Mrs. J. K. Ward, Mrs. D. C. Thomp son and sister. Miss Elva Brown,, all of Aracdia, visited in our city last Saturday with many friends, return ing home in the evening. Bassett, of Gibbon, and Miss Charlotte Templeton, secretary of the Library Commission of Lincoln, ad dressed the township meetings both at Arcadia and Loup City, Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. George Ross and baby, who have been here visiting at the home of Mr. Ross's sister, Mrs. Bert Travis, and family, returned to their home at Aurora last Friday morning. Benjamin Swanson, who has been here for some time visiting with his brother and sister, Mrs. John O’Bry an and O. L. Swanson, and families, for some time, returned to Ulysses last Saturday morning. M. Levy came up from Hast ings last Thursday evening to assist in the Pizer & Co., store during the fashion show- held there last Friday and Saturday. He returned to his home Tuesday morning. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Arnett, Mrs. Gust Youngland and Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Clark, were passengers for Phillips. Nebr., Tuesday morning to attend the funeral of their little granddaughter, Irne Cogil. Julius Beushausen, who has been here visiting with his brothers, E. T. and C. F. Beushausen, and families, left for his home at Web, Oklahoma Tuesday. "Mr. Beushausen purchased a set of home made harness from James Bartunek to take with him. He said that the harness made by Mr. Bartunek is the best that he had ever seen. Radcliffe & Reiman have been awar ded the contract to erect a set of buildings on the Frank Psota farm ten miles south of town. The im provements consist of a house, barn, and a number of other buildings. This set of improvements will cost in the neighborhood of $4,500. Work has been commenced and will be com pleted in a couple of months. H. J. Johansen has filed for the re publican nomination for county super visor. Mr. Johansen has been a resi dent of Sherman county for many years and is well and favorably known by all who have resided here for any length of time. He has held several responsible positions in past years and at present is president of the Sherman County Agricultural so ciety. Mr. Johanson has a large fol lowing and will be a strong candi date. On Saturday, John H. Welty of Washington township was in Loup City and filed for the republican nomi nation for county assessor. Mr. Welty has been a member of the county board of supervisors for seven years and chairman of the board for five years, representing district No. 2. Mr. Welty was induced by his friends to file for the nomination. Miss Mary Augustyn was a passen ger to Elyria Monday, to attend the wedding of her cousin, Joe Mata. Mrs. Frank Sobiesczyk and little daughter, went to Boelus Monday to visit a few days with her parents. O. Benschoter was a passenger to St. Paul Saturday to spend Sunday with his daughter, Mrs. Harvey O’ Bryan. Mrs. E. E. McCray, of Sargent, was visiting in our city last Saturday with many friends, returning again in the evening. Nelson Fisher returned home last Saturday from St. Paul where he had been visiting with relatives, and on business. Miss Maud Reynolds returned Mon day evening form Mason City, where she has been for some time visiting with relatives. Miss Dessie Martin returned home last Monday from Fremont where she had been spending the week with her brother, Charley Martin and wife. Miss Lucile Bulger returned to her home at Arcadia Monday evening af ter visiting here with her sister, Mrs. Elba Smalley, and family for several days. W. G. McNulty and two daughters, Klea and Ursolia. were Grand Island passengers last Friday morning to spend the day, returning again in the evening. Mr. and Mrs. \V. P. Taylor and Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Trefney, visited at die home of Andy Enevoldsen and wife at Dannebrog over Sunday, re turning home Monday noon. Seed Corn—I have some choice 1914 yellow seed corn I will sell for $2.00 per bushel. Mr. and Mrs. James McDonald, who have been here the past few weeks visiting at the Benschoter and Rey nolds homes, returned to their home at Edgewood, Iowa, last Friday morn ing. Mrs. W. H. Pageler and children left last Saturday morning for Cedar Bluffs, where they expect to make their future home. Mr. Pageler went a few days ahead with the household goods. Mrs. Von Anstine and baby, who live near Arcadia, were passengers to Tamora and Utica, Nebr., last Fri day morning to visit for a few days with relatives. They returned home Monday evening and spent several days visiting at the Alfred Anderson home. Tracy arrived here from Lincoln last Saturday even ing. where they visited with friends for several days. Mr. Tracy returned from a visit with relatives in New York state about ten days ago and spent a week at Omaha attending the state meeting of the cement users association. He was re-elected presi dent of the association for the com ing year. C. W. Burt, of Clay township, is a candidate for the republican nomi nation for state representative on the republican ticket, having filed this week. Mr. Burt has resided in Sher man county for eleven years and is one of the progressive farmers of the county. Mr. Burt has never held public office, with the exception of township office. If nominated and elected to the state legislature he would ably represent the Fifty seventh district. Sometimes bad errors happen when a newspaper is being made up and once in a while the error is not dis covered until after the* paper is printed. Such an incident occured last week in The Northwestern when the type in a dance notice and a re vival meeting notice were mixed. We regret very much that a mistake of this kind should happen but after, the paper was printed and mailed it could not be changed. All the type and ads for last week’s paper was set in one day, besides printing, folding and m&illng the paper, which is set ting the pace too fast and is some excuse for making the above men tioned error.
