Removal Loup City, Nebr., Aug. 12—To the Editor of the Kearney Hub, Kearney, Neb.—Dear'Sir: I have before me a copy of the above named paper under date of July 13, which on account of my ab sence from my office for some time escaj>ed my notice until this morning, and I hasten to reply to the same. In regard to the removal of the state university to the state farm, or to any place from its present location. I am against it. I have at all tiroes been opposed to the removal ever since this question was raised, and as a graduate of the state university the various university departments have often asked for an expression from me of my views in regard thereto. I have always “voted” against re moval, and if elected senator from | the twenty-second district I will at all times oppose and seek to prevent any such removal. I believe in university extension, and that the ground north of the present site should be obtained at the earliest possible date, as time will only increase their value at the expense of the state. Just whether I will vote, if elected, for this extension at the next session, will depend on the financial condi tion of the state, but under no cir cumstances do I favor removal, and if not elected to the senate I shall use all my personal influence to prevent removal. I trust I have made myself plain in the matter and I thank you for the opportunity to make my feelings in the matter known. Yours re spectfully, • Robert P. Starr, | Republican Candidate for State Senator 22nd District. SOME ROTES OR ELECTION Hamilton county progressives only cast some 38 votes. Sherman county progressives only 23 votes. John Wall, for state senator, got over 700 majority in Valley and Custer counties, with Loup and Garfield to hear from, and making his nomination sure. With only one prohibition and four pop votes in Sherman coun ty these political parties were not much in evidence. Our socialist friends claim about 150 votes in Sherman county, but the returns show but 18. The democratic machine in Val ley didn’t do a thing to our jolly friend, Joe 0’Bryan. And we do not blame Joe for shaking the dust of Valley county off his bro gans and moving back to Loop City and Sherman county, where they know a good man when they see him and appreciate him as well. Ollis of Valley got it in the neck from the democrats over the state in his candidacy for railway commissioner, coming out third best, and can now appreciate what he and Valley county democrats did to Joe O’Bryan. As we predicted, D. C. Thomp son, our splendidly equipped young republican friend of Arca dia, received the nomination for county clerk over Chas. Masin, a royal tribute to Arcadia’s ex postmaster. ’Rah for the tall sycamore of Valley for the next county clerk up there. The progressives had no local ticket in Valiev county. Tommy Atwood received the re publican nomination for sheriff of Howard county over Hig. A pro per tribute to a splendid man. Majorities do not always tell the tale. Gappa, with 185 votes, or a little over one-fourth the number cast, received the demo cratic nomination for sheriff in this county. This was the one great surprise of the primary. As it looks now, Omaha gets at least four of the republican state candidates. No wonder Omaha is hot for the primary. Tad Scott' captured the demo cratic nomination for representa tive in Hamilton county. Tad was formerly of Loup City, and took his popularity down there with him. Charley Pool and Will Maupin, winners on the democratic state ticket, are both newspaper men. Denny Cronin, republican candi date for representative in Holt county, is also an editor and a winner. The editor of the North western is traveling in tfast com pany. Ross Hammond, editor of the Fremont Tribune, lost out in his candidacy for governor and we don’t like that a little bit.
