John Kozel is working for Jake Roy. * * Jake Roy is plastering Mrs. Cora Niesner’s house. John Kozel and Jake Roy were at Schaupps last Sunday. Frank Papiernik has moved back on his farm. We understand John Olson will move back on the route again and in the Thomas house. James McBeth and wife and Mrs. Clarence Burt attended U. B. church at Litchfield Sunday last. Carl Mickow and Lillie Brown were married Wednesday. April 22. Car rier wishes them years of happiness. Harry Shipley was called to Hazard last week to the bedside of his moth er who underwent an operation. She is reported as getting along nicely. There will be a program and picnic at the Wiggle Creek school bouse on Wednesday, April 28tli. Every one invited. There will be a bi; program at the Prairie Gem school house, April 24, at 11 p. m. Immediately arter, a pic nic dinner, every one invited come with well filled baskets. For the next two months carrier lias to keep a record of all mail, post age and weight received or collected for and on the route. Please do not get any mail from the postoffice as I wish to make best showing possible. Please mail all letters and packages on the route for the next two months. A good many farmers are plowing too dose to the road this year. The road bow graded the roads, making ditches on each side and this spring carrier knows of a dozen places where farmers have filled up the ditches with plow or disc. The ditches carry off the water and keep the roads dry. ] C t House ley at Rockville There will be a Court House Ralley at New Hall Rockville, Saturday evening, Aptil (25th at 8:30 o’clock. F. Beushausen left Tuesday morning for Omaha, as he said, but we’ll venture the guess that he stopped off in Lincoln that af ternoon to attend the democratic editorial pow-wow. This week we present the an noucement of L. H. Currier as a candidate to succeed himself in the office of county superinten dent of' schools in this county. Mr. Currier has so far as we know proven a most efficient head of Sherman county schools, and in event of his re-election the people would have no reason to regretthe actions at the polls, we have no, doubt. Lee Burnett and family return ed to Rockville yesterday after a visit here. Judge Wall had legal business at Ashton Tuesday and Rockville yesterday. Mrs. Lum Fletcher and Blanche and A. E. Chase were passengers for Grand Island yesterday. Cash Conger and family were here Tuesday evening from Dan nebrog enjoying a short visit with relatives. Mrs. T. D. Wilson left yester day morning for Williams, Iowa, called there by the enfeebled health of her aged mother. Mr. Wilson accompanied her as far as Grand Island. Miss Lucille DeCamp, who had been in Chicago for some weeks undergoing a surgical operation for the recovery of one limb, ar rived home last Friday. She is still on crutches but • eventually will be able to throw them away and become as she was before she was injured. She is a sister of Mrs. S. A. Allen. The sixth annual District meet ing of Rebekahs of District No. 32 was held in this city last Tues day evening and Wednesday af ternoon and evening in I. O. O. F. hall. The meeting opened with Mrs. Anna Lay. District President, pre siding, Mrs. Nettie Steen, Acting Secretary and Mrs. Emma L. Talbot, of South Omaha. Assem bly Secretary, as instructor. The address of Welcome was given by Mrs. Aimee Conger, responded to by Miss Meyers, of Rockville. The order of business was taken up and under Roll Call of Lodges in the District, delegates re ported from each lodge in the dis trict showing a total membership of three hundred twenty eight. The school of instruction by Mrs. Talbot was beneficial to all. Af ter the closing ceremony light re freshments were served, thus closing the first session. Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 p. m. meeting was presided over by Mrs. Talbot. The several com mittees were appointed to report at the evening session. During the question Box period many im portant questions were discussed by Mrs. Talbot. The District of ficers were elected for the next term, and at the close all were served with punch and wafers. Wednesday evenings session was largely attended as shown from the roll call. Number pre sent from Arcadia 49,Comstock 1, Sargent 2, Rockville 15, Loup City 49, total 117 including Mrs. Talbot. One interesting feature was the competition in honors ol secret work by all lodges, three con testants took part, Mrs. Jensen ol Rockville, Mrs. Drake of Arcadia and Mrs. Aimee Conger of Loup City. The honors being won by Mrs. Conger. The Initiation work was put on by the Arcadia Degree Staff,, much credit being due them for the beautiful work. A solo by Mrs. Outhouse and the beautiful recitation by Mrs. Con ger, were enjoyed by all. Following are the District Of ficers Installed for the term: President, Belle Wall, Arcadia Vice-Pres., Aimee Conger, Loup City Warden, Alice Tangerman, Rock ville Sec., Haddie Jamison, Arcadia Tres., Rose Thompson, Loup City Marsha], Jane Landers, Arcadia Condnctor, Anna Saville,Comstock Chaplain. After the closing ceremony all joined in singing, “Blest Be the Tie That Binds. ” Thus ended the sixth annual District meeting and all felt well repaid for attending. SWANSON & LOFHOLM DRUG STORE SCHOOL NOTES Miss Wauneta Conger is think ing of quitting school. Miss Blanche Nicholas was ab sent from school Monday. We regret that Mr. Smith has to return to Kearney, this week. The Base Ball team were de feated at Ravenna Friday. The score was 5 to 6. A large number of the pupils of the school turned out to see the pictures given by the Unity Club. The Misses Tangermann and Lund of Rockville were visiting the Loup City schools Wednes day. Why don’t the business men of Loup City work as hard for a new school house as they do for a new court house! Mr. Beachy was at school iast week to try to persuade the Juniors to manage the lecture course, but the Juniors were not persuaded. Friday the High school seemed rather small for several were tak the state examination, the base ball team was at Ravenna and the Alpha Girls' Glee club at Ashton.
