DECEMBER 4A, 1915.
The mens’ meeting was held in
the court house at 1:45 p. m. with
a very good attendance.
The opening address was given
by Mr. J. F. Coupe, of Walthall,
Nebraska, County Demonstrator
of Thurston county, on Hog Cho
lera and Inoculation, a subject
that interests us all at this time
and should beneficiary for hogs
and dicing in many p’aces.
He said if yours and your neigh
bors hogs, are ah healthy, they
should not be inoculated, as you
give them the desease by so doing
and will have it in your yard and
may infect your neighbor's hogs
also, but if it is getting close and
dangerous inoculate your hogs.
Our veternarian,I)r. Wienman,
also gave us some information on
the subject.
Mr. Coupe answered several,
questions at the close of his dis
course, which were valuable to all
fanners, he showed how easy it
was to carry disease germs, on
shoes, dog's feet, wagon wheels
and horses' feet.
Mr. E. P. Brown, of Davy, Ne
braska, gave us a good talk on
corn hogs and alfalfa. He left
the city on account of his health
and now has no desire to go back.
He told us of raising hogs on corn
and alfalfa with a good profit. He
has had no disease on his farm.
He does not permit anybody in his
pasture or lots unless they have
satisfied him as to any infection,
and he does not all jw a dog on
the place at all as he said he can
not afford to have disease in his
stock.
Mr. Brown showed how we
must exercise the utmost care
with our stock to make it real pro
fitable.
The ladies met in the basement
of the M. E. Church, at 2:30 p. m.
The discussion was led by Miss
Aural Scott, of Lincoln. Th^re
were about 118 ladies in attend
ance, and had a very good and
helpful meeting,I know for I have
tasted some of the results.
The evening meeting was held
in the M. E. Church. On account
of the bad roads and weather
there was a small attendance. The
officers for next year will be the
same with one exception on com
mittee.
The most of the evening was
taken up by Mr. Cooiie, followed
by a solo by Miss Florence De
pew, which was highly appreci
ated, closing with 1‘Education in
Spending” by Miss Scott, which
would if practiced be beneficial,
for there are many sharks, such as
peddlers etc.,selling inferior goods.
Robert Dinsdale, Secretary.

MENT AGAINST SA
LOON KEEPER
Mrs. Ralph Moran of Shelton was

Moran came to his death last spring

The Sun says the Aurora floui

The St. Paul Phonograph press, is

Mrs. H. N. Smith returned home

children. Her son, Nelson Smith and
family, accompanied her home for a
brief visit.—St. Paul Press.
Boyd Burrowes and his com
pany wereto play at the opera house
in Ravenna last night. That set
tles it. Now we know why this
section has been having so much
rain.
The public schools of Ravenna
have been badly handicapped
the past week with an epidemic
of mumps, five teachers besides
many pupils in their rooms, hav
ing acquired the mumply affairs.
Firebugs are getting in so much
work at Kearney of late that the
city council has put up a standing
offer of $200 for the capture of
any person setting fire to any
building in the city.
A St. Paul young fellow who is
addicted to walking in his sleep
went to bed all right one night

Blazek. “See here,’’ he cried,
‘you mustn't arrest me I’m a som

Dr. C. A. Flippin, Grand Is
land s colored physician, is de
fendant in an action for $3,000
damages. It is alleged that he
performed an unsanitary and un
skillful job in a childbirth case.
Flippin claims that several physiy
cians were summoned to assist
him, the case being a difficult one,
and that they all refused on ac
count of the family being on the
“dark list*’ which being inter
preted means poor pay. It is
charged that several Grand Is
land doctors have refused - to at

BETTERMENT
OF SCHOOLS
To all citizens of Nebraska in
terested in the public schools:
The past few years there has
been a general public interest in
school affairs, and many valuable
suggestions have come from all
sources proposing improvements
in school conditions. The last
legislature was so overwhelmed
with a flood of school law bills
that they requested the governor
to appoint a comission to make a
thorough investigation and pre
sent to the next legislature such a
revision of the school law that will
best meet the present day de
mands.
We, the undersigned, members1
of the commission, respectfully
ask you as public spirited citizens
to give us any suggestions you
jjja.v have for the betterment of
public schools, together with your
reasons therefor. Please address
all communications to Miss Edith
A. Lathrop, secretary State School
Law Commission, Lincoln, Nebr.
Respectfully submitted,
James E. Delzell, Chairman
