The committee of Nebraska editors,
appointed for the purpose at the last
state convention, held in Omaha dur
ing the summer of 1913, is very de
sirious of learning the sentiment of
the newspaper readers of this stats

in order to frame an intelligent re
port to be submitted to the next state
convention, and to influence some
ligislation upon the question. Youi
opinion is important. Kindly fill out
the following ballot and forward shui*
toL. J. QU1N1SY, Chairman, Om

legislation?
Do you believe in the taxation of
farm implements and machinery, farm
improvements, crops, stock or other
products of the farm?
The present constition gives to the

Do you believe in the taxation of
personal property, either in the form
of household goods or of money?
Do you believe in the exemption of

such improvements are in the form
of business blocks, factory buildings
or homes?
Do you believe in inheritance or
state income taxes?
What would you think of the taxa
tion of franchises according to their
stock market value?
Do you favor the practice of levy
ing upon only one-fifth of the assessed
value of properties?
If you are in favor of exemption of
my or all of the above enumerated
properties from taxation from what
source would you recommend that
revenue for the maintenance of pub
lic institutions should come?
Would you favor local control of
taxation?

city schools gave a Thanksgiving

composed of songs, recitations,
etc., and proved a pride to the
parents and patrons of our city
schools. Miss Cecelia Conklin,
musical instructor, had charge of
the entertainment, assisted by the
teachers of the five grades, and to
them as well as the little ones,
belong the honor attained. The
opera bouse was well filled by a
delighted audience.
Regular Price Cut
Do you recollect a time in which bo
many things of vital interest to every
family were being agitated and at
least partially accomplished? These
public affairs closely touch the income
and outgo of everyone of us, and a
careful reading of a first-class daily
newspaper is most desirable. The
children in the family should be en
couraged to read current events. Of
course this makes it necessary to se
lect a clean paper, .one that is not
filled with liquor and nasty medical
advertisements. The Lincoln State
Journal is the kind of a paper you will
want, and just now the bublisheisare
offering the daily and Sunday until
Jan. L 1915 for only 54, or without the
Sunday paper only 93. This te a spec
ial cut price offer which will not be
good after December 28. As a special
inducement a year’s subscription to
the Weekly Independent Farmer and
the Monthly Poultry Topics is includ
ed. The news of the world, Nebraska
affairs in particular, reliable markets,
and tlie philosophy of Bixby made The
Journal Nebraska’s leading newspa
per. Order through the local agent or
Bend direct to the State Journal, Lin
coln, Neb. Order today and you will
receive the paper the remainder of
i this year.
